Battlegrounds, Random Groups for Chaos Ball are weird

I've just started running BG's for the new mount. I've been queing up for 8 person random groups and noticed that a lot of the time for Chaos Ball a good portion of my team mates just spend their time fighting the other team instead of even running to the ball. I was in a group last night and half my team just sat around fighting nowhere near a ball while the rest of us actually went for the ball, and I mean over and over and over, they didn't even try to help. Took me three tries to get a win.

Is there a strategy I'm missing? Isn't the objective to actually go after the thing? Not really complaining as I'm new and sometimes being new you miss strategies but I see this all the time. I finally logged onto my NB instead of my Arcanist and managed to kill people left and right and won a match.

Hmm, for normal chaos ball, its better to stick close together and attack as a group, that's true. You would need a few healers to survive the damage. I think a good amount of players avoid the balls because they play a ganker build with no healing capabilities whatsoever. Sneaking is impossible and healing is reduced if you hold the ball. Essentially, they treat it as a game of hot potato.

For the chaos ball with the werewolf and vampire modes, it's definitely a situation of hot potato. The monster forms deal a lot of damage but have no self healing, so your healers want to avoid it. There is a 3rd ball where you remain a normal character. It's best when the 3rd ball player is aggressive but not a ganker.

As for fighting away from the ball, the goal is to distract and divide the opposing team, otherwise they can recoup and steamroll your team.

You’ve just discovered the endless battle between those who want to win the objective and those who want to fight the other team. Maybe someday again ZOS will give a separate queue for Deathmatch and Objective modes.
