Why are some of the Old Life Shrines so far away...

The only one that bugs me is the one in Stonefalls that is inaccessible from that side because the "gate" is quest locked. As a long time player, I know if my character hasn't done that quest, they can get to it via The Rift and just ride through the load screen border but new players may not know that.

It's not quest locked. You run around the back of the fort around the North path. Though this does present another issue that a long time player thought it was quest locked, so newbies might too.

Well that is good to know. I just never bothered looking :)

I only dislike stuff being far away on a baby alt until I get to level 10, go to Cyrodiil for the intro quest, and unlock "Continuous Attack" passive for the constant 30% boost to mount speed.

Some of the base game dolmens and Northern Elsweyr dragons are further from wayshrines than any of the old life shrines.

I was going to say this too. I groan inwardly when the Fighter's Guild daily points to certain maps since I know getting to the active dolmen is going to be a pain (and I still don't have the best routes figured out for about half of them). But other maps, you're only a few seconds away from the nearest wayshrine.

Not sure why the game is so inconsistent about this, even in the base game content.

Inconsistency can be good: it would be a boring game if all the zones used exactly the same layout and distances.

They don't have to be the same layout at all. But it would be nice to have a little more consistency with travel times and access for key locations. Some of the maps are bizarre in just how far you have to travel to an active dolmen, to the point it can easily be done by the time you get there (especially if there's a group actively farming them).

You probably don't want to hear this, as I understand the frustration from a gamer's point of view, but having these shrines be far away from currently active and well-traveled areas is lore accurate. It even has a modern day parallel as population centers move in nation states due to over farming, conflict, or simply the wanderlust of the society.

I'd be fine if they were ALL like that, but they're not - some are only a few seconds ride from the nearest way shrine!
