Yesterday I was pretty sure the forum headers mentioned that there weren't supposed to be any maintenance but here we are.

As someone who is an ESO and WoW gamer as well, you got my sympathies.
SWTOR can at least keep me semi-occupied for a bit, but might need to do some cleaning/job hunting while waiting for ESO to come back up.

The difference is this maintenance/downtime was planned. The one you're referring to - the 36 hour downtime - was not. As a matter of fact, ZoS has already admitted that said 36 hour outage, which was the worst ESO has ever seen since the game launched back in April 2014, was a near worst case scenario, one which may take weeks to fully recover from.
