I have a bunch of characters and am getting frustrated with some settings

I create a new character and need to remember all of the settings I have changed on all of my other characters. The settings I am taking about are things like turning off the keyboard changes I prefer and what keyboard character is used for locking my running. Estimating the total changes I make are probably 15 or 20. That is just an example of the issue. I have a total of 58 characters so not a small issue. The setting are scattered all over the place in the setting menus.

Why would I want to have different settings between characters??? Same with the screen layouts???

I have more than one computer I play on and that doubles the issue.

Can I clone the setting from one character to another!!! If not WHY???

There are reasons why some players would want different settings on different characters, but I agree with the principle of offering the option to apply the same settings from an existing character to a new character - much as happens when you first own a new home, for example.

So far as doubling the issue when playing on two computers is concerned, I only ever have to resize the chat window when I play on my other machine, all the other settings remain in place as they are saved server-side. I play on PC but don't use addons, although I've no idea if that affects things.

If you are on PC, there is a great addon which will help with some of that: Votan's Keybinder:

Since you’re using computers, you can try the Synced Account Settings addon. I don’t know where it saves to, but if you find out, you theoretically could copy that file to your other computers.

yeah i would recommend looking at sync settings addons

those would at least keep all of the settings the same per account, you would have to manually edit the saved variables though to copy that across multiple accounts likely

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

I use the Synched Account Settings addon too, and I highly recommend it. It's saved me so much time not only when creating new characters (it's really nice to be able to just log in and play) and when I make changes to my settings, I don't have to stop what I'm doing to make the same change 9 times over.

One nice detail is that it lets you choose which settings are copied and which are kept seperate (or you can disable the addon entirely on some characters). For example I have the mount upgrades shown on some characters and hidden on others, so I keep those ones seperate.

This is something I think should be a base game option though. I understand some people might want different settings on different characters, but I suspect there's at least as many who want them all the same (or maybe want a few minor differences, like the mount upgrades being visible) and it's annoying to have to re-do them all each time.

On my computer it's saved in Document > Elder Scrolls Online > live > SavedVariables > AccountSettings.LUA

I think you can change where the ESO documents folder is, but within that the path should be the same for everyone.

Thanks for the information I will try the addon for syncing settings.

zeos is just being lazy with the lack of ease of use in not giving the option to allow some settings to be set for all characters!!! I can't see why I would change my setting for most things that are customizable.

Most of the settings I change are not key binding but settings.

Synced Account Settings and Votans Keybinder it's the best thing you can have on a PC and then you don't have to worry about anything. Maybe plus Chat Window Manager.
The only thing you have to turn off and watch out for is if you're using an unofficial translation of the game addon, turn off the language synchronization!
Because if you use a chat script /script SetCVar("language.2","XX") the UI is reloaded and within a second the account settings revert back to the saved language.
