Hello.

I often think back about my favorite games of all-time and obviously The Elder Scrolls comes to mind. I was wondering what top 5 games you've enjoyed the most that's NOT an Elder Scrolls game? I think it would be interesting for the devs to see what types of games their player base have enjoyed the most.

Here are my all-time top 5 games that's not an Elder Scrolls game.

1. Shining Force ( Sega Genesis )
2. Chrono Trigger ( Super Nintendo )
3. Final Fantasy 3 ( Super Nintendo )
4. Crystalis ( NES )
5. God of War 3 ( PS4 )

It's 30 years old and played better on dial up than ESO does on fiber.

Hands down my favorite of all time.

I couldn't possibly list 2-5. As there are so many that I really really liked, but just didn't stand out as favorite of all time.

Over the course of my life, I have played a lot of different things. Graphic adventures by Sierra and Lucas Arts (with the Monkey Island series and a few Indiana Jones games in particular). Turn-based rpgs like Might and Magic. Ego-shooters - everything from military and police themed to sci-fi, from story-based like Half-Life, to PvP games (I don't even want to know how many hours I spent in Unreal Tournament). Real time strategy, in particular probably thousands of hours of Age of Empires 2 (started in 1999, still playing today; that's 25 years). Then action rpgs, and when it comes to those, I'd say that the Deus Ex series and the Fallout games were what I spent most time on. I'm not sure if anything of this really translates well to what I'd like to see in ESO, though ;)

it would only work if you asked people to remark what features about said games you liked

most of the games being suggested are so far out of scope of what eso is/does that theres virtually no way any feature they have could be included in eso

like what feature in god of war series would ever be included in eso?

Though I'm not sure if this would really be my top 5 games of all time, they were the first that came to mind:

    1. Grim Dawn
    2. Icewind Dale series
    3. Pillars of Eternity II
    4. The Witcher series
    5. Baldur's Gate series

Edit: I can't believe I forgot about Neverwinter Nights. I definitely played those more than the Witcher games, so that'd probably be my 4th pick instead.

There are many things the devs can look at from other games that's we've enjoyed. Everything from story telling, to content chemistry. One of the most overlooked qualities of a game is fun factor. Games don't always have to be 10/10 on graphics and sound as long as it is fun to play. Adding a bunch of content that is boring to play or feels like a job you must go do, loses the core element of what it is. It's a game. It should be fun to play.

Not sure if they can draw useful conclusions just by game titles. What would they make of the fact I spent lots of time on Unreal Tournament and Age of Empires 2? That ESO needs Janissaries with laser guns?

Have you ever played GOW3? That game is a masterpiece. The character development is superb. The fighting mechanics is outstanding. The storyline is epic. It is so immersive and feels like an acton movie from the beginning to the end. The passion of the characters / actors keeps you on the edge of your seat. I'd love to see more of that added to Eso.

One of my favorite moments from Eso is when Abnur Tharn was fighting Kaalgrontiid. THAT WAS EPIC!!! I had chills watching that. We need more of this type of content in Eso.

to address your first comment, thats like literally the baseline definition of what any game should be but not really going into much detail

obviously the story has to matter and theres already been many threads in the forums about story quality in ESO

to address your 2nd comment, ive never played any god of war game lol, however saying story and character development being good is a feature that could be thought of that might improve eso, theres no way that fighting mechanics from god of war would fit in eso (not only because they are different style of game, but also built on different engines and whatnot)

everything else being mentioned would again fall under story and character development, which as noted some believe eso has been lacking in this department between chapters

I gave an example of Abnur Tharn vs Kaalgrontiid. I think more immersive, EPIC cutscenes like this would help greatly in telling the story of Eso. Many games do this and are very memorable and loved decades after they were created. All of the games I listed in my top 5 non Eso games have this in common. The right blend at the right time makes a game feel more than just a game. There are many other features that made those games great as well.

cutscenes are hit or miss for me, when used too frequently in a game it feels like the game is just playing itself because im not doing anything or can affect the outcome

im probably more of a fan of less cutscenes, in some games i end up skipping them entirely because i just want to play the freaking game instead of waiting on 30 min of intro cutscenes
