The issue of accountability

So many people have become very vitriolic and hyped up over repeated poor implementation of systems, lack of communication, etc. We all know what’s wrong - the list goes on.

I’m surprised that not a single person at ZOS has just come forward and said, “you know what? We got this wrong and we’re looking to change this in the future. Here’s what our plans are.”

They could even create more polls themselves to get an idea of where the community’s head is at for certain changes. There’s a lot of “we hear you” and response to criticism basically saying “hey that’s mean.”

Open and honest communication between 2 parties in real life doesn’t work that way. Owning up to mistakes and working together as a community-dev team to bring the game to where it needs to be is what we need and frankly that takes accountability. I think a simple message from the team surrounding the PvP dev stream recently, massive unwanted changes to the game like U35 and the like would be huge instead of “trust us” or “we don’t expect our devs to be god tier” comments. It’s not constructive. Many people on the forums can be flamboyant with their opinions and on Twitch, but many didn’t start that way. People will get tired after X many years or X amount of time of pleading for communication and getting nothing. I’m not in the doom and gloom club. I think the game can improve for sure and we’ve definitely lost players, but it’s not something that cannot be changed.

I'm not sure ZOS thinks anything they've done are mistakes.

The studio head's year in retrospect letter comes out Dec 17th. I'll reserve judgement til then, as I know some things have been addressed in the annual letter in previous years.

I mean, the devs are essentially doing a global victory lap and talking up how successful ESO has been. I wouldn't hold your breath. From their POV, ESO is most likely in fantastic shape.

PVP has been an afterthought for at least 8 years. It will likely continue to be. They are focused on their core business of selling chapters, dlc, and Crown Store cosmetics to fans of The Elder Scrolls.

They toss gaming enthusiasts like me a bone now and then, but we're not their core audience.

    Greetings,

With there already being a thread opened on this subject here, we're going to go ahead and close this one down.

    Thank you for understanding.
