Could you let players Pickpocket some Tel Var from other players in the Imperial City?

I'm a rat. I know it.

But something I was thinking about while sniffing the behind of an enemy player in PvP, it'd be interesting to be able to pick a players pocket.

'Course it shouldn't be as rewarding as killing the player, and the pickpocket should reveal the thief, but could be an interesting dynamic to add.

If we could loot each other corpses then we would try very hard not to die meaning people avoid the zone for these such things.

I mean more akin to the current Tel Var "looting" in IC:

When you kill an enemy player, you take half their Tel Var.

Generally speaking this means just make the most meta duelist setup and go around killing bosses/players.

It'd be interesting if there could be a "thief" kinda addition: Standing behind an enemy player while undetected in stealth, you can press a button to perform a "Pickpocket" attack that stuns them and steals like 10% of their Tel Var.

Likely having an internal cooldown per player (as in, a player that gets pickpocketed, cannot be pickpocketed again for a duration).

Imperial city is a really unfair setting for PvP.

You get to ambush another player wile he is fighting npc (and probably not wearing a pvp armor if he is grinding) on top of this you have no risk of your own since you are probably not carrying any talvar.

    Yea really fun.

that would make imperial city even less fun.
    Not a good idea

I don't disagree. But the IC isn't a necessarily "fun" place, especially if you're not in a ball group or a meta-god.

Gankers will still be ganking and getting 50%, and PK'ers will still be PK'ing for 50% as well. (though with this suggestion there is a potential concern that gankers could double-dip)

Just if someone goes a stealthy route, regardless of the gear the opponent brings (unless they shift towards passive stealth detection at the expense of offensive power), if they can sneak behind a player, they can pilfer some Tel Var. 10% of their Tel Var if they escape, of 5% if the player subsequently rolls them.

I don't PVP but this type of play would discourage me even further from venturing into IC.

Imperial City already has a problem with risk versus reward. Gankers carrying 0 Tel Var get 50% of the Tel Var from the player who is farming NPC and lose nothing if they fail and are killed. This suggestion of allowing players to pickpocket Tel Var seems to me like it just makes the existing problem of risk versus reward in Imperial City even worse.

i don't think we are talking about pick-pocketing 50% in one go. maybe 5% and up to 15% with three successful picks then a long cooldown, or maybe a combat text message after each pickpocket (you've been pickpocketed for x telar)

As one of those gankers, this idea (at least the way I'm envisioning it), would likely cause me to die more often with less reward compared to when I do just get the surprise attack and get kill Tel Var (I'm setup to be a major glass-cannon who can die in pretty much one combo if I don't pull off an initial damaging stun).

I'm thinking that such an ability would:

    - Need to be within melee distance of them without being spotted (or using an invisibility tool in tandem), and be behind them.
    - Need to forgo the opportunity for a first strike. (Performing a pickpocket should reveal you and place you on the GCD)

Best suited for less geared players that can't burst down tankier targets (but also provide an incentive for some player interaction regardless), and place the pickpocketing player at a disadvantage if they try to hold ground (get back here thief!).

Or you just want to surprise a noob (instead of just deleting them).

I do think that the 50% grab on player death has always been too high and IC would be more fun if it was reduced. I still like this idea though especially with the cooldown someone mentioned.

Had some idiot attacking my khajiit NB during mayhem, pure PvE build not sneak as stealthy enough with racial and cp, killed him easy.
Achievements for +10K telvar and others so just sneak, spam cloak and port to Cyrodil while running for boring places.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Of course not! Where's the role-play in that, and how does it fit into ESO lore?! The best role-play in ESO is as a Necromancer. Once you start certain quests, NPC's will react to you, even attacking you, because you're a Necromancer! Embrace it! Role-play in ESO only makes sense if it doesn't make sense!
Chillin' in Tamriel as a Nature's Guardian!

We don't have pickpocketing for other players outside PvP areas.
I don't see this as being a benefit to anything. You can't pickpocket the NPCs in IC for TelVar, it's all kill based reward.
In reality there are many more things ZOS needs to address before adding something like this. There are many things ZOS needs to fix before they add anything else to the game.

Not looking to add player pickpocketing outside of IC (though it would make banking and carrying gold, and emergent player combat more interesting, but a clusterfk).

IC is all about stealing from players/staking claim on areas in a very no-rules kinda way (apart from might makes right). That is its niche. It is not something I'd want in general, especially since ESO is all about play how you want (and the resulting diversity of amusement parks they've created).

You certainly get Tel/Var from things like Chests (Which IMO needs to be buffed), dailies, certain events.

Was just musing about something that popped into my head while I was doing "kill based rewards" through ganking players: "Well I'm right behind them, it's almost like I'm picking their pocket with my wombo combo (if it works)", and decided to post this passing consideration.

Now I'm realizing it could be an avenue for the less-equipped rat.

That’s the plan. To sabotage it from the inside. Pretend to be a dedicated IC player and come up with these “great” ideas to have them implemented and destroy it further. Genius!

No. Absolutely not. The second ‘P’ in PvP doesn’t stand for ‘Pocket’. And IC is already a low-risk, high-reward zone as it is.

Well, what is a dedicated IC player?

I've oscillated between a solo single-target WW with quick clears/Mob sustain to a single-target burst vamp ganker (against players)

Perhaps I'm simply sabotaging myself, why do you think that is?

I've played hours where Is imply wait around (while killing the Deadra), until some juicy ball groups come around where I can gank an individual here and there for some thousands of Tel Var (of course split amongst their ball group as they kill me afterwards).

I'm a dedicated IC player, but I'm not a dedicated ball group player.
