Potential Scribing Damage Shield Focus Balance Issues on abilities that impact allies.

Ulfsild's Contingency and Soul Burst provide more than double the shielding to allies when compared to Obsidian Shield when your health is high.

Ulfsild's Contingency costs significantly less than Obsidian Shield, Chakram Shields, or Daedric Refuge while providing similar or superior power when it comes to shielding allies if your magicaka or health is high.

    Shielding is the most disgustingly overtuned mechanic in the game right now. It's obscene how much "healing" you can output with Contingency alone - plus the buffs you can cover for your team and an unnamed 8% damage mitigation.

    Add in Soul Burst, Chakrams, Wield Soul, etc. etc. and it's so over the top.

    Add in Soul Burst, Chakrams, Wield Soul, etc. etc. and it's so over the top.

    I had thought shielding was perhaps a little out of line overall but, I hadn't actually done much careful testing with it on the PTS till yesterday when I noticed the big gap between it an the class health scaling shields as well as the significant cost differences.

    Today, I was goofing off with the more extreme possibilities and got Ulfsild's Contingency to go over 30k.

    You PvP a fair bit more than I do, does anyone have much success with using the Dispel version of Trample to pick off shields?

    Trample is more or less worthless to pick off shields, since most shielder builds will be stacking a couple or spamming shields. It can be ok in a combo to help your combo punch through a bit, but at that point just use a damage script instead. The only time it's worth it for stripping shields is specifically against Barrier or Bubble, but there's always a chance that Trample will remove a different shield instead.

    I feel like the issue is that Obsidian Shield is only useful for the Major Mending--it's been due for a buff for many years, I think.

    I think the challenge you'd hit with buffing it much without reworking is that you'd potentially be further eroding the healer role in content and potentially putting a damper on players experience with mechanics.

    If the tank can cheaply toss a big shield on the group, the healer isn't really going to have much to do and the group can ignore even more mechanics.

    I can actually outrun my mount when using Trample. Coupled with the cast time, the ability isn't practical for PvP.

    Although it is useful in Infinite Archive to inflict status effects and gain Major Heroism.

    I agree to a point. I think damage shields from skills need toning down. On the flip side, I think damage shields from sets need tuning up, as those are conditional and cost a full set to take advantage.
