Are you not confused by people spamming X in chat?

Haven't played in a long time and came back to learn that people say X now to be invited to groups. Not trying to nit pick but how can you tell who wants to be invited to what groups? You'll have 4 different events listed in chat and 20 people just putting X without saying which one they want an invite to.

If you’re on PC, its likely people are using an auto invite addon that’ll send an invite to someone saying the code word, so people will say x (the commonly used code word) to be picked up by either the addon or people manually sending group invites.

In PC/NA Alik’r you’ll notice also y, z, a, b, c (in that order) used because of the likelihood theres more than one filled group running dolmens. So people will say x (send) y (send) z (send) until they get added.

I should've specified that I play on Xbox but I can see why now. Thanks :)

Might just be what’s the social cue for invite then, especially since without any addons there won’t be competing autoinvites. On PC/EU I think they use + instead of x, for no reason I know of other than cultural difference.

ppl should know better when xing up in guild chat. they should be x with inviter's id. Sometimes i'll skip over them and come back to them if it doesn't fill up, i don't have time to ask "did you x for me?".

X is easier on console as you dont need to get to a different keyboard to get the + sign. As to who wants what group, this event has two different things happening, usually chat is slow enough to know what group is being requested or its somewhere like alikr where it is 99% dolmen group requests

Yes it's the plus sign in pc EU as in an addition to the group, which is clearly the superior way to do it, but pc eu is the superior server after all B)o:);)

It's NA players invading EU. EU players are capable of typing "+dolmen". It seems NA players aren't.
If it isn't "+dolmen" anymore, it shows how long ago I joined a dolmen group. Nerfing has that effect.

People usually aren't putting x in chat for no reason. Like now during the event people are grouping for the crow and jack. If 2 or more people are grouping, you can simply saw y for crow if someone is already using x.

Frankly this is not a problem on PC/NA. If it's in basically any other zone besides Alik'r you'll see one person say something like "Type B for Bittergreen wb" and a bunch of people type B, or "X for Harrowstorm group" and then there's some xs.

During an event in a specific zone, there are nearly always rolling groups running (see: geysers in Summerset when the style page was dropping) and if you sent x and didn't get a group someone would tell you group 1 is full, type Y for group 2 etc

    Nonsensical !

    Adding is the +

NA goes all algebra on it with their x and y

"Thirdly, the third branch [of sciences] may be termed σημειωτικὴ, or the doctrine of signs, the most usual whereof being words, it is aptly enough termed also Λογικὴ, logic; the business whereof is to consider the nature of signs the mind makes use of for the understanding of things, or conveying its knowledge to others." Said Mr Locke.

Semioticians converge on the NA server....

I just hit x and go with whichever group invited me first. Usually it's just the one group at a time asking people to x up anyway. But on the rare occasion it's not and I end up in the wrong thing, well a little chaos every now and then spices things up lol.

Only time I'm really careful is if the person isn't looking for randoms or I really needed a specific activity. But if it's just I need help with something, I don't really care which I help assuming I have the time.

I've never found it confusing, it's usually clear at the time what people mean and if there's more than one group going they'll specify in some way.

I remember the first time, a while ago now, that I entered Alik'r. All I saw was 'x', 'y', or 'z' in zone chat. Constantly. I had no idea what it meant. Figured it out eventually. :)

I've since used 'x' or some other letter of combination many times (not in Alik'r). Like someone said, often because of auto-invites, but not always.

On PS NA it’s “lfdg” instead of “lfg”, where the d is dolmen.

Personally, I never grouped up there because I think you get a xp boost at dark anchors anyway from what I remember.

I think part of learning any MMO (or any social situation really) is learning the terminology the players use. I remember feeling very silly the first time I caught myself writing something entirely in acronyms, but also knowing it would look strange to the people I was talking to if I wrote it out in full. (It was in Guild Wars 1 and would have been something like "R/E LFG ZB HM".)

For groups it can also be a kind of filter mechanism - if you don't know what the 'code' means you're probably not up to that part of the game yet and can ignore it. The first time I learned what + in chat meant was when I asked my guild if anyone would help me do my first dungeon and the leader volunteered, then asked people to put a + in chat if they wanted to fill the remaining spaces.

It is common and no wonder that people want to turn dolmen efficiently in groups in Alik'r Desert. Also, in the zone chat, the response to the question “What does x mean?” is often immediate, and the response is often either clockwise or counterclockwise. I think how nice it is to have people around.

And some people actually enjoy trolling by setting up an autoinvite string (usually "x"), which automatically invites you to their "group".... of nothing. And then you can imagine them cackling with amusement at the keyboard, as they ignore your inactivity and your questions, waiting to see how long it takes before you leave the "group."

I have been sabotaged by being covered with the same letters in cyrodiil. However, it has never happened before in Alik'r Desert.
