Where to start a new Imperial character ?

for the last few years I have created new characters giving them some kind of previous life. Creating them in Chapters/DLCs location but not playing the zone quests, just the miscellaneous quests, delves/dailies and public dungeons (if high enough).

Analiina Aelnaith — Altmer — Summerset
Nelrie Margaux — Breton — High Isle
Sarria Ralaathil — Dunmer — Morrowind
Qa'ahni Ahrhan — Khajiit — Ne Quin-al (Anequina - Northern Elsweyr)
Lydi Eagleseer — Nord — Haafingar (Western Skyrim)
Lasak Khatzag — Orsimer — Orsinium / had to cheat as there are no Gates in Adamant
Tun Magsar — Saxhleel — Murkmire / had to cheat as there are no Gates in Adamant
I have yet to create a Bosmer and a Yokudan (Redguard) as there are no Chapters/DLCs yet created.

Now my question is: where should I start my Imperial? in Blackwood or West Weald?

During the afternoon of Loredas, 6 Sun’s Dawn 2e578 a big piece of Aetherius fell to Nirn. It was the first major piece of Aetherius to fall on Nirn in more than five hundred years. It scattered around the world as millions of shards. It was rapidly documented by Lady Cinnabar of Taneth in her pamphlet Aetherial Fragments that "... when three shards meet, they re-form into a silvery prism by unknown process and confer the power unlocked by the merger to a nearby being." The Order of the Black Worm, commonly known as the Worm Cult, reappeared in Tamriel shortly thereafter and some of its members are avidly searching said shards.
In the last week of First Seed 2e579, an arcane explosion occurred in the Imperial City — a night of storms, and trembling terrain. They named it the "Soulburst". That day Emperor Varen Aquilarios disappeared without a trace. His wife, Clivia Tharn, ascended to the Ruby Throne as Empress Regent under the guidance of the Necromancer Mannimarco. Ushering a time of increased instability within the Empire of Cyrodiil which finally grew into “The Three Banners War”.

For Redguard characters, there is the Hew's Bane (Thieves Guild) DLC.

I have exactly one Imperial character, and I started him in the Daggerfall Covenant, just because the Bretons seem most like the Imperials to me. But you could put an Imperial in any of the three alluances and start them in the Gold Coast (Dark Brotherhood) DLC, or the Blackwood chapter DLC, or the Gold Road chapter.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

i think that depends on if your imperial is Nibenese (Blackwood) or Colovian (West Weald).

also West Weald is partially a bosmer zone with Dawnwood so you could have a bosmer start there too.

Western Skyrim would have also made sense for an Orsimer as there's a stronghold there and Blackwood for an Argonian as that's half Black Marsh.

side question: are there more Imperial sub-cultures other than Nibenese and Colovian ?

I feel like the Gold Coast is the most Imperial-y of the Imperial zones. And you have Anvil with Nibenese architecture and Kvatch with Colovian architecture, so you get both regional cultures covered.

Gold Coast seems to be the favorite, so ... West Weald it wil be as it as 2 land access to the Gold Coast.

You could also consider where the Imperial style homes are located. E.g Cyrodilic Jungle House in Malabal Tor.

When I started my first Imperial I already owned that one, so he moved straight in. It's close to the wayshrine, so a good base.

Here we go ... starting in Skingrad then moving to the Gold Coast.

    Stamina Arcanist / DW & 2H

My name is Luscius Sextal. I was born on 18 Last Seed 2e556 at Castle Brindle. My father left Cyrodiil and moved to Skingrad in West Weald when I was just fifteen years of age. He is currently residing at the Merryvine Estate.

When I became a teenager, I realized I was different. Invoking the name of any of the Divines of the Cyrodiilic Pantheon at a wayshrine (Akatosh, Arkay, Dibella, Julianos, Kynareth, Mara, Morihaus, Reman, Shezarr, Stendarr, Zenithar) would enable me to travel between any shrines I previously visited. Wayshrines could be fixed Portals. "Portals, also known as Aurbisal conjunctions, are magical rifts that enable teleportation when entered. Skilled mages can use portal magic to travel across Tamriel, even bypassing major obstacles, both man-made and natural. However, the performer must know exactly where to generate the portals, or he will face catastrophic consequences. This is, the mage must have been there or, at least, see clearly where the portal will spawn." I have yet to meet anyone else who can use wayshrines. One thing is certain — when I visit a new region, I intend to take the time and locate all its wayshrines.

On my sixteenth name day Khafzadal, Stablemaster in Skingrad, gave me a Nightmare Courser that he has, unfortunately, no competence to bring back to full health, his wrangler having died a few days before. I nicknamed the horse "Darkness".

Two years ago, on Sundas 9 Morning Star 2e579, I went in front of Mara and joined my life with Illdil Snow-Maiden, a Nord and fellow Arcanist. Two months later the "Soulburst" happened. Illdil is currently assisting Grand Warlord Zimmeron at the Northern Morrowind Gate.
