West Weald Treasure Maps

During this event I've dug about 50 West Weald treasure maps, and I've found just ONE lead. ONE LEAD !!! Why is it so hard to get treasure maps leads ??? I thought that during the event it was easier, but it was worse. I cant understand... this game is meant to be enjoyed... why make things so hard ?

I haven't done many treasure maps, and I have only been casually doing the event.

I have 12 West Weald leads in my queue. It seems like you have really bad luck.

My current dry spell is 35 consecutive maps without a single lead dropping, which I guess I'm okay with seeing as how it was the straw that broke the camel's back and made me realize that I don't need to play a game that I no longer find fun. ZOS has essentially made the grind so intense, that the game is quite simply no longer fun unless you're a casual that doesn't really care about completion.

I totally agree with the colored part.

    Games should be some hard.

But think about zos, they really want you to grind harder so the player-time metric looks better! Make more leads per antiquity, and make the rng worse - that will definitely make players enjoy the game more, so that we will put more time into eso the long run.
    For sure!

I found a lot of leads during the event, and I wasn't looking for them-- didn't even know they existed before I found them.

I swear, it seems like the game reads your mind to see whether you actively want something-- a lead, a specific type of resource node, etc.-- and your chances of finding the thingy go up exponentially if you aren't looking for it, or down if you are.

I actually got many of my WW leads when the DLC first came out. But it's the other areas I'm not so keen on getting. A friggin trial boss and an arena? How lucky could I be to get it on one try. psssh. I do don't trials much and I haven't done the maelstrom in ages. Maybe if one of my guilds decides to do a farming night, perhaps I could partake. But not likely.

The Ebon Wolf Dwarven mount was the most fun item to get leads for. Mostly public dungeon group events, WB's and delve bosses. It was enjoyable to do because it was obtainable to work at.

I'm chasing the last lead for the music box right now. Everything but the daily was pretty quick. My opportunities to get the daily lead are limited and it's taking quite a long time. Frustrating because I'm just so sick and tired of WW.

My final tally was 48 consecutive maps before finally getting a green lead. That nonsense was just the impetus that I needed to move on from ESO.

    It's quite frustrating, I agree.

I need 2x more leads for the Ayleid Window (gorgeous, by the way) to complete the lore. Only x1 more for the Ayleid Arch. I guess I'll get them one day, probably...... maybe...... possibly......

I'm determined to get them before the next update, when the new Ayleid furnishings (which also look amazing) will allow me to finish my deserted Ayleid retreat.

Yup. I burned out on that lead. I did hundreds of dailies when Gold Road came out, no lead. I gave up for a while until the event. I thought for sure it'd drop since I was doing the complete rotation of dailies, thanks to zone groups but...nope. My RNG on this one is abysmal.

    This is not compelling gameplay.

The RNG on them is pretty wacky. I got very lucky during the event - when the maps also happened to be falling from the sky - and got several leads knocked out. Now that the event is over, I picked up more maps on the cheap in the hopes of finishing off the codices on some of these and I blew through 10-15 yesterday only to get one green lead. That same handful during the event, I got like 6-8 leads.

For a long time players complained about ancestral/ancient motif leads behind treasure maps. The devs either got us wrong or they're just stubborn, because while they did stop with the ancestral styles, they just put very cool furnishings in their place. What we wanted was an end to these treasure map leads, not an end to the ancestral motifs. These blasted leads cause more frustration than engagement with the game. I had to wait until Filer Ool had Telvanni Peninsula maps in stock to have a chance to get a few furnishings without going broke. Who knows when West Weald maps will show up in the filer's store?

Honestly, I never pay attention to leads when they get added to the game. That way, when I do get them I am surprised and happy about it, but I don't have to stress about trying to grind for them.

I needed around 360 treasure maps to get all the respective codex entries in west weald (i.e. 30 leads) - not exactly my definition of fun. :#

(And this is after giving up on the third apocryphal well after 800+ maps.)

I don't know how the RNG works for different leads, but I was getting some outrageous RNG for Ancestral motif pages while digging up treasure maps in various zones.
    • Dig up a treasure map-- find a lead for Ancestral Orc Chests.
    • Scry and excavate the lead.
    • Dig up another treasure map-- find another lead for Ancestral Orc Chests.
    • Scry and excavate the lead.
    • Dig up another treasure map-- find another lead for Ancestral Orc Chests.
    etc.

Switch zones, and start getting the same kind of results for Ancestral High Elf Daggers.

Thank goodness my alts still needed to learn those. :)

Yes, those are very common. The not common ones come from DLC areas. I agree that they have to be uncommon. BUT there is a limit beyond which one should not go, otherwise people get fed up and leave.

I also have everything 3/3 and probably needed a few less maps. Spent almost 5mil on Treasure Maps (unfortunately bought mostly before the event for about 20k/piece). That was a "great" experience...

I don't see antiquities as a big issue. when I find a lead, I do it... eventually. Lotta stuff that is very cool only requires one lead.

The primary reason that some of us grind the leads is that once you've completed the codex entries for furnishings, you can just buy them from the achievement furnisher which makes it easier to do some housing builds. What is not easier is burning through hundreds of maps and still coming up short. ZoS either doesn't listen to feedback or or just glosses over player's frustrations and keeps pushing leads into treasure map drops. It's quite simply not a fun or engaging experience.
