I just can't compete with most players I find in IC. I deal next to no damage and can't tank pressure. I know necro is in a really bad place while some classes are in a really really good place but there has to be a way to at least survive a duel even on a necro. How can I improve it ? Essence thief is mandatory because sustain on necro is hell and trial by fire is too good for my surivability to take off.
I don't want to go for a D-swing build because it's just not viable in 1vX as people spam roll dodges and you generally want to kite.
If you think this is a skill issue, you're probably paritally right (I'm far from the best player out there) but here's a clip to show that I'm not a total noob (it's an old clip, I have since fixed that sustain problem)

Udrath✭✭✭✭Maybe drop trial by fire for something another damage set like dragons appetite. Seems your sustain is working fine with essence thief. Personally I’ve always ran as much damage as possible on necro because they have a really good cleanse and the 10% damage reduction is nice.
If anything just get a loads of damage sets to test with essence thief and spam battlegrounds.

✭✭✭✭✭Drop Trial for something like Dragons. I'd also probably just keep Maarselok on, as without it, it's tough to win 1v1s.
For more resists, farm out Dov Rah Sabatons. 5 medium 1 Heavy 1 Light and you'll still have 35k resists with Dov Rah up.1 -
Navaac223✭✭✭thanks for the suggestions. I was afraid I wouldn't be tanky enough without trial but the pressure from dragon's really makes the difference. I switched 1H and shield for a staff to get DoT from ele susceptibility. I'm even thinking about taking off essence thief for a vate staff on the back to get even more pressure but right now, I'm getting way more damage than before :
