I hope this isn't going to become normal... I do appreciate the free items, but please don't lock it behind achievements. Not everyone enjoys questing in ESO..

Yeah this is too much trouble. I won't bother. But I do keep a toon logged off at a portal for seals endeavor. BUT it doesn't count towards achievement unless you actually go in a portal, closing one doesn't count for achievement but it counts for weekly and daily.

I really expected SOMETHING for just being here 10 years. Something available ONLY to players that have had forum or game accounts for 10 years.

10 year forum players should have something by their name, not that 10 year badge no one sees. I think it's important to see how long players have actually been with the game.

What doesn't count for that particular achievement is closing a deadlands portal, as that achievement is for Blackwood. And I don't think the map zoom out is a useful guide here.

I guess because I'm just logging in/logging out at a Deadlands portal, I only show 2 on my achievement because I'm not leaving. I got the 2nd one when I brought an unused alt there. But again, idc about another pet. Nothing you can do with them. You can't even display them in your primary residence.

It's already normal and has been for a long time.

There are already a lot of items locked behind achievements. For example, you can get dyes, non-combat pets, emotes, furnishings, etc. for completing achievements in-game. The items aren't put into the crown store. You just automatically get them when you complete the achievement.

I don't see the difference between that and having to go to the crown store to pick up a free item tied to an achievement. The only difference is that you have to go to the crown store to get the item. In other words, there's an extra step, but otherwise no difference.

I don't like to PvP and I don't do vet content, which means I won't get items locked behind any associated achievements. That's fine. You don't like questing so you won't get any items locked behind questing achievements. That's fine too.

Buy a bigger house? And I do not mean for crowns. There are plenty of them offered for gold in game. Many of them do not even require any achievements.

The things currently in the store are time-limited (as the monthly extra things in the store during the last few months had been). Reason:

Same goes for the daily and weekly endeavours. After Archive dropped, there were masses of endeavours about Archive. So they can claim "20933 gazillions of people played Archive, Archive is a huge success!!"

True, but the OP doesn't like them because they involve a specific activity, not because they're time-limited. However, that is a small difference between automatic-achievement items and crown-store-achievement items.

But if you enjoy doing an activity, there's no difference. The only drawback to the time limit is if you can't play the game during that time period for some reason.

I agree. Although actually it's not even questing (OP wrote about a dislike concerning questing). It's just running into the portal and killing a list of enemies, plus the last boss x times.

Of course it doesn't change a thing if it's an activity one dislikes. But it's the way it is, I guess. I've been lucky this time because I already had the achievements before (I did a stupid amount of these portals after Blackwood was released for the furniture that sometimes drops with the boss chest), but who knows what it is next month. If it's PvP achievements one month, well, bad luck for me.

We have also had some larger houses from just doing events over the years, so it have been free (no cost) to get some of those larger houses just from playing. Last house we got this way where Sword-Singer’s Redoubt house.

    https://dotesports.com/mmo/news/elder-scrolls-online-is-giving-out-free-houses-but-youll-have-to-work-for-them

Most of those Crown Store item that are free during a certain time frame will also unlock if you have already done that achievement before event started or item where added as a free CS item.

As long there isn't a too chain of achievement to unlock any item this way I don't really see an issue with this. It would be something else if you would need to have unlocked achievement which in turn is need to unlock another achievement and then you could get access to that free item and the time frame would only be two days.

It's a thing they've been doing for the whole anniversary year... each month they "spotlight" some part of the game and then give some stuff away related to it. I imagine the purpose of locking some of the things behind achievements is to steer people into trying and engaging with that month's content. They don't really have to give us anything so I'm fine with it - just skip the ones you don't want or that don't feel worth it. It's a business doing marketing things. It is what it is.

You can't call it free if it requires an achievement that may include a DLC that you may or may not have. It's not free and ZOS might as well charge crowns for the item if it's not going to be available for everyone.

Yep, in this case questing isn't involved. It's all about combat.

And same here. If they do a free item one month locked behind a PvP achievement (or trials or something else I don't like), I won't get the item, which is fine. In this game, you have to get used to not having every item available unless you're willing to buy everything in the crown store. For free items, they're free, so as far as I'm concerned they're a bonus.

That was EXACTLY my point: ZOS aren't going to give the item away for free: there's always a price, whether the price is an achievement, an ESO+ subscription, or crowns paid for with real life currency. So I wasn't calling anything free.

Free means you do not need to pay the crowns that you would have to pay if they did not have this promotion.
How would you want them to label these items to indicate that no regular crown cost is involved?

Note that I'm not defending them. I'm just pointing out that it's clear from the description what is involved.

Deadlands was given away for free to all Blackwood Chapter owners after reaching the 100% milestone during the Bounties of Blackwood event. They then had 2 weeks to claim it from the Crown Store.
