Faction lock Cyro generally results in a much better gameplay experience most of the time for all players involved compared to the alternative.

Couldn't care less about which faction is winning/losing.
I honestly couldn't tell you who won any of the campaigns for the last 5+ years. I find it annoying that I can't just hop on and group with friends on whatever alliance they might be.

I'd be more than willing to forfeit any leaderboard rewards to be unlocked. I don't care about score/rewards. I just want to fight people outnumbered.

Good and bad. I don’t care about winning campaigns cause night capping makes faction lock irrelevant. People just want good fights, but not one sided fights though.

Pretty much this. If Zenimax had reason to believe that the lack of faction lock led to scores being manipulated in a meaningful manner, then they would not permit it at all.

Faction lock has completely killed our PvP group, as we used to have main mains from different factions. We either couldn't play together in the only populated campaign, or we couldn't play our mains solo. We couldn't care less about the scoring system or which faction wins. But the faction lock absolutely stayed in our way of having a fun time.

That's not what they mean by faction lock.

Faction lock means if you play Grey Host on a blue, you can no longer play Grey Host on a yellow.

It's dumb because it basically means you aren't allowed to play in the only campaign with real action if you have multiple friend groups in different factions.

@JonnytheKing I generally think it's a good thing because firstly some people are extremely petty and switch factions to “gank” others who are on the same faction as themselves, and secondly I think IC needs one too because the downside of IC is that some people literally live down there and hate it when “new” people try to farm and gank them for “disrupting” their farm runs even though they have equal rights to farm down there.... so I think they should add it everywhere ... Including IC ... especially IC.

I'm positive faction lock being added had very little to do with zenimax caring about "competitive integrity" in regards to campaign scoring, and everything to do with their intentions to squeeze more money out of pvp players through the later-added alliance swap tokens.

It's a silly mechanic that just prevents PVP oriented players from playing with their friends. Wish they'd remove it.

It's a pointless forced role play mechanic, and that is giving zos the benefit of the doubt that it isn't deliberately making the gameplay experience worse for indirect monetization.

While I understand this point of view, on the other hand, it's no fun when your faction starts to steamroll in IC (or even Cyro). Some people just want fights, and when one faction starts to kill off the population of other factions, the only way to get those fights is to swap.

@CameraBeardThePirate totally understandable, but given that IC is almost never populated, it's kinda known now that mostly AD or EP go there with guilds, so if you want to fight other people, I'd recommend playing on DC (and I'm not trying to say people should play on DC with this.... Just a simple observation I've made).

Which is exactly what we do - we play on AD and fight DC and EP until eventually one of those factions (usually Blue) starts to empty out as more AD join the server. Once there aren't anymore fights to be had on AD, we swap to Blue.

I'm positive faction lock was added because a lot of PvPers had been begging for it. And I'm also positive alliance change tokens were added later on because a lot of PvPers were begging for them.

@CameraBeardThePirate I'll be honest with you, but if you look at the map in Cyrodiil, especially BR, you can see that AD dominates 75% of the time. It doesn't matter if it's in the morning or prime time. I know there are only 2-3 hours during the day where DC has more people online, but that's about it ... otherwise it's just AD zerging the whole map ... I can't complain about EP because there are hardly any people online there either, but I know for a fact that many players from both factions have stopped playing in Cyro because the constant zerging and faction hopping. I had a conversation yesterday with someone who was originally EP and now plays on AD, and when I asked them why they switched, their response was “I'd rather zerg than be zerged”. So yeah, I think the faction lock would be better at this point because otherwise you won't get the “fights” you're looking for in cyro or IC unless you have groups running around, but let's be honest... the PvP population in Eso has dropped quite a bit this year because people got tired of the meta, lag, and constant zerging.
And I won't mention names here, but there are some people who literally switch factions in IC to “scare” other players to leave so they can keep farming ... totally sad in my opinion ... imagine sitting there every day doing the same thing for years ... makes you wonder if they have nothing else to do but that's just my opinion on it.
So yeah a faction lock in IC wouldn't hurt in my opinion.

@SeaGtGruff pretty sure they did it for the money xD

They may have put them in the Crown Store for the money, but they added them to the game because of player demand. Don't confuse reason for creation with reason for implementation.

Easy question. You are either DC or you are an enemy. Can't get locked out of factions I wasn't going to play for anyway.

Everyone that was there, remembers the days when a troll would grab a scroll and run it the wrong way, or turn siege around or put a ram on the wrong side of a Keep. Faction lock didn't fix all of it, but it did significantly reduce the number of times it does happen.

Lol, this. 'They predicted we'd try and take back our scroll at Rayles 5 minutes after we capped Carmala. How could they have seen through our cunning plan but for the abundance of spies among our ranks?'

I like faction locks, because it got really old getting zerged by AD on Blackreach while they were flipping the map one color, then getting zerged by those same players on their DC characters when it was DC’s turn to flip the map back one color. That doesn’t happen on Gray Host.

    I dislike the faction lock.

I've PVPed for many years now, and a few years ago, my PVP guild was EP. As a result, all but 2 of my toons are EP.

Those guildies have long since moved on from ESO for many obvious reasons, and I have a few groups I play with. GH is generally the only server with populations across the board, and I can't easily play with my different friend groups due to faction lock. It is always really frustrating for the group as a whole.

Sometimes, I'll be the one left out because we're PVPing on DC or AD, and they want to swap to GH bc the map is just overrun with our same faction, but I'm already locked to red because 15 of my toons are EP. Other times, a healer will be faction locked to a different campaign and can't join us. With the populations what they are, I think lifting the faction lock is long overdue. At this point, it just feels like it has persisted in order to sell alliance change tokens.

i dont really like faction lock because it has prevented me from playing with friends in grey host because they entered the campaign on a character of red or blue, and i only have yellow toons

i usually only bother playing on grey host when factions are extremely unbalanced population wise in the other campaigns

    Faction lock sucks.

In the past few months I've made friends with several players on DC and done some small scale / group content with 3 different sets of friends. As well as some long-standing friends.

Now one set has gone to EP, one to AD, and one stayed on DC.

I understand why because DC on PC EU GH was dominating and had a dozen organised groups, sometimes 2 of my sets of friends would be on at the same time, and it sucked for finding fights.

I stuck with the DC set because even though the least active they are longer standing friends, more than a few months, and want to play with them when I can.

EP group play most days and I would love to jump on with them some times but I can't because of Faction Lock. Which also sucks because EP isn't even locking pop on GH. They all play BR.

They need to change Faction Lock to like a 24 hour cool down or something. 12 hours idk. Like I get not wanting people to just shift around depending where the tide goes but on a monthly basis really really sucks.

Sounds like a population issue. A faction lock would make a dead campaign even 'deaderer'
