Not even a competition at this point.
Arcanist is leagues ahead in cleave damage.

    Two things to note…

-Dragonknights are a close second for damage because of Flames of Oblivion.

-Having a Nightblade (or stage 4 vampire) in group to cloak past the mobs in the earlier DLCs to pull your group to each boss will save more time than you would with an Arcanist cleaving everything, so it’s good to have one of them in your group depending on the dungeon.

That being said, you can honestly run anything and find success, as the combat in ESO is quite trivial once you’ve got a grasp of it.

    Single Target its Sorc rn.
Arcanist for Trash Pulls If you aint willing to change your Sorc setup to Overload HA during the dungeon.

Arc is best in like 99% of scenarios including dungeons and trials. Easy rotation, easy sustain, fully cleave damage, and is the only class which doesn’t really require light attack weaving since the Velothi Amulet is BiS for them. Oh, and it can put out ridiculously high instant burst AND easily proc Azureblight.

They only aren’t best in rare scenarios, such as high arcs in IA, some scorepushing, or Trial Target Skeleton Parses which no one actually cares about.

If you’re going to DPS stuff in group content you’ll be better off almost every time on an Arc.

    Honestly, it's Arcanist.

Just because it's so easy to do damage, single target and AoE, as well as survive. You can play one setup for entire dungeon, in every dungeon, and it works.

However DK is ahead in single target DPS, has cleave for good AoE DPS especially when there is only two or three targets, and most importantly, just way cooler.
Harder to survive as you don't have flail which heals and a vital part of rotation like Arcanist, or you main ability with a fat damage shield.

Sorc is highest single-target DPS and while can easily have AoE DPS for Trash packs, in AoE boss fights it is easily outshined by DK and Arc.

Overall i’d say arcanist is the best because of it’s cleave efficiency, it’s also a very easy spec to play that is quick to learn. There are outliets however

Sorc has the best ST damage in the game currently and i would argue it is just as easy as arc to play if you use pets.

Templar has decent AoE and ST damage and can reach absolutely absurd DPS numbers during execute phase.

DK has higher ST than arcanist but lower AoE, it’s also a bit harder to play.

NB, warden and necro don’t really have anything going for them that another class does not do better.

Execute - yes, but only after 10% (so its literally for the last seconds of a fight)
for the remaining 90% of the time, you might as well throw spagetti at the adds - a templar is bottom of the DPS pile right now.

stealthing past mobs isnt an option in newer dungeons if your going for no death or speed run achievements, as most of the newer dungeons require killing every mob

I don't know which templar you've been playing, but in PvE it's definitely not a bottom tier DD. I would say it's closer to being 3rd right after Arcanist and DK. In dungeons I would even put it above DK. You should start using your beam at around 35% instead of 10%. It's not as good as Arcanist for sure, but it's definitely a really viable DD class.

All of them. "Best" is highly subjective and everyone has a setup that works for them. No one class isbetter than the others objectively. They all play different and can really excell depending on how you build them.
