Avoiding the Mirrormoor Meteor(spoiler)

In the fight with Torvesard, I always die at the same moment. When I'm ready to portal to next platform, I don't reach the portal in time as my health is draining. It doesn't look on screen like anything is really happening, but my health drains away and the death screen says the Mirrormoor Meteor got me. I don't really see a circle on the ground, if it's there it's blending in. How can I avoid this?
