MYM: fun PvP like the old days

I play around 10:30 PST and usually we are lucky if 3 bars . With MYM actually have to wait in Que.

The huge zerg-tides are like the good old days. Huge fights for keeps lasting over an hour. Big battles with hundreds of players , not just a meager group of pugs on one side and an unkillable ball group on the other.

We had a >1 hour fight for glade the other day. True, DC successfully defended-- they got a 240k tick by report. But 30 minutes later we started a 1 hour defense of arrius, which succeeded, and we got a 103k d tick.

It just isnt possible to have these huge, fun fights, which are like no other game, without lots of players.

True, there is lots of lag, there are big queues, lot of proc sets...but its fun. Wish PvP was like this all the time (it used to be like this all the time)
2 GOs, an overlord and bunches of prefects etc-- all classes...I've wasted a lot of time in PVP

Same, i am having so much fun in cyro again. Only thing i would want to change is the ballgroups (mostly AD abusing them in EU). They only farm players and run around wasting everyones times with their stacking shilds.

Cyro would be a better place with only big zergs at prime times imo.

This was one of the most quiet Double AP events I have ever seen personally. Seems like the participation is dropping with each one.

Agreed. The first four days were pretty busy, but after the weekend the player population dropped way off. Now it's almost like there isn't an event happening.

Stuck in combat. Constantly. REALLY annoying. Otherwise, yes. MYM is a lot of fun...

I suspect it's due to the poor performance. Grayhost is unplayable without rubber banding, high ping, and disconnects. Everywhere else is rather playable, but the amount of times my skills don't fire makes the event unenjoyable.

I usually go to Imperial City during the event for some good large scale fights. This time around there doesn't seem to be any sustained really big fights in Imperial City. I am getting on later than I have in the past but not sure that is the only reason for the difference.
Still fun and I got all twenty characters on one account to at least tier one in Cyrodiil and a few characters on my off account to tier one. Haven't decided yet if I want to run some of them through again now that the campaigns refreshed.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

I agree! Got a 100k tick for defending Ash a few days ago. The inner doors went down many times but we got them back up and pushed out and successfully secured it. Epic battle but RIP brand new shock lancer when I went down, though.

All this action and I have hardly spent more than a couple of minutes in the queue so far on PS NA on DC. Participation is waaaaay down this year.

Just think, I bet if they had more double AP events, smaller ones without tickets, we could have action like this more often.

Better than those BG weekends that I don’t participate in because I don’t really like BGs.

Not a big pvp fan but, I do jump in during MYM. It's been really nice this year, even finished part of the quest line with an enemy player and then we went our separate ways. Normally I get frustrated and end up not famishing the event but, this year has been good.

I agree that an occasional double-AP weekend in Cyrodiil, or double-TV weekend in IC, would be nice rather than just all of the double-AP weekends in BGs. They could rotate weekends between Cyrodiil, IC, and BGs. I don't know how frequent the BG weekends are, but if for example they had a 3-way rotation every other weekend, it would take 6 weeks for the rotation, which would be 52/6=8.67 rotations per year. But there could be weekends that were skipped due to ticket events occurring at those times, so maybe have just 4 rotations per year-- i.e., 1 Cyrodiil, 1 IC weekend, and 1 BG weekend per season/quarter. No event tickets, event coffers, or style pages, just double AP or double TV.

But I also wonder why players who enjoy PvP in Cyrodiil and IC don't seem to go there outside of these events. Some players do go there outside of events-- I know, because I do, and I do see other players there, too-- but I'm talking about all the players who only go there when there are event-related incentives, such as event tickets, event coffers with a chance of special outfit style pages, double AP, or double TV.

Good question, I would have to assume that it is because they know Cyrodiil will be busy. Can’t speak for IC because it is mostly empty when I go there even during the event.

Yes, IC has had very low pops whenever I've gone there during this event, although that might be due to the time of day or night that I'm there. But I was watching some streams last week where the streamers were playing in IC, and it seemed to be fairly well populated then. I didn't hop on to join in, because I try to avoid enemy zergs in IC.

In contrast, during past years there were some pretty fun times with groups being formed to run through the sewers killing all of the bosses, collecting the skyshards, and fighting Molag Bal's simulacrum in the center. I haven't seen those this time, but to be fair I haven't gone looking for any groups either because I've spent most of this event in Cyrodiil.

Edit: Also, I haven't needed to farm event coffers or IC sewer bosses for outfit style pages during this event. I began the event with 10 tickets from the previous event, and during said previous event I bought all 3 fragments of the morphable pet in addition to having a fully assembled morphable pet, so I was able to buy the first fragment of the mount before earning a single ticket this event, and after that I've had nothing to spend tickets on except the Lich style pages and the group repair kits. I already have everything from the older events, so there's no need to run around the sewers fighting bosses hoping from a style page to drop. That isn't a complaint, mind you, because it's been nice to be able to focus on the Alliance War in Cyrodiil and make a lot of AP.

Completely agree and glad you guys had a good time. I'm kind of taking a break from things for awhile, way too much stress on this end. Also, many times in PvP we experience issues that many have stated in this thread, when ball groups get involved everyone basically just starts dropping like flies.

MYM is a good thing and can be lots of fun but over time many issues have creeped in, and you know it just gets old after a while. Would be great with a MYM server, even a paid sub for it and no group sizes over 4 people.
Today Victory is mine. Long Live the Empire.

I hate being stuck in combat, but I also miss the epic 1 hour keep defenses, or half-hour bridge / milegate battles. those were always fun, no matter how many times I got stomped on and teabagged!

AvA is addictive, much like tattoos...painful, but it hurts so good! >:)

I'm not generally playing around in Cyrodiil aside from one toon who does a bit of AP farming for transmutes, but I have to admit that even my PvE-leaning toons have a good time during Whitestrake's events. Yes, we tend to die and respawn much more frequently than we do outside of Cyrodiil, have had more than a few incidents of "Run away! Run away!" (and still died), and certainly eaten more steel than we've dished out, but we've been having a good time, aside from a few gankers upon whom I wish a chronic and particularly nasty pox (incurable would be the bow on top).
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

The previous MYM I researched and made a PvP build, which I finalized this MYM. A build, which to how I play, feels good/intuitive to use. So for once I have actually done some Cyrodiil PvP this MYM, including some mass player battles. Gained roughly about ~2 million AP so far.

Personally I love the one versus one moments.

Weird take as a PvE player: The pelinial boxes should be a standard addition to PvP, dropping similar as to how they drop during the MYM event(remove the style pages). Why? Because the boxes grant goodies that give non-PvPers a reason and a way to enter PvP. The tel var is alright, sometimes it has crafting materials inside, has a rare chance for hakeijo rune, but the most important thing is they can grant siege equipment. This siege equipment allows PvE players easier access into PvP and sieges. As I have noticed doing this myself as well. Also feel the AP from quests in Cyrodiil needs to stay like it is during events. To make the quests/towns a worthwhile doing for PvE'ers at all times, having them touch PvP gradually. (Personally I love doing the town quests.)

PC EU: Haven't had any lag, crash, or disconnect issues. Game seems to run like a charm, even in Cyrodiil. (PC EU)

    My "PvP" experience in 2024:
    - Waits 20 - 30 minutes in the queue.
    - Enters locked campaign that has more or less no fight going on.
    - Finally a big push and keep is siged. Finally some action.
    - Lag spike & ball group shows up.
    - More experienced players do leave the fight cuz they already know the outcome.
    - Finally ! Another big fight, this time with no ball gorup.
    - Ball group shows up again...
    - I end up afk in captured home keep (in stealth) waiting till ball group will leave so I can get some AP.
    - Occasionally I will fix a wall or two to be on the "def tick list".

That is not fun. It is the opposite. It is boring. It is a waste of a time. Only reason I think people are playing is to stockpile AP for Gold Vendor Monster sets....

Cyrodil PvP is fun when all sides are pretty much equal in player count. It is unfun when one side outnumbers the others by 20-40 people. It always ends up the 2 sides with numbers gangs up on the lesser for easy scores (AP, campaign, keep takes, etc.). MYM is pretty much, other than prime time, where all sides are basically equal in numbers and has enough population to have enough activity on the map. 2 bars seems to be 20-40 people while 3 bar seems to be 40-60 and poplock is something like 60-90. At 2 bars there just isn't enough people in Cyrodil to make it a fun experience, the rest of the year.
