What is Dodge-able by Non-Dodge Roll

I'm wondering if anyone here knows what makes certain PvE attacks dodge-able by sets like Merdia or Shadow Dancer. A quick test in Wayrest 1 shows that only some of the "yellow" attacks from bosses can be dodged with these effects, even though most of them are single-target "heavy attack" type hits. Of course, dodge rolling works as expected and negates all of these attacks. Are there any definitive qualifiers for what can and cannot be dodged?

Such as? I don't understand the "yellow" attacks part, but I also play on console. There are boss attacks that are part of mechanics that can not be mitigated, but I don't know of any that occur in Wayrest 1.

But on a related note, are you planning on using these sets in PVE? Because they are terrible for group PVE content.

Direct damage vs. an AOE attack may be what you are encountering and why some attacks make it through

"Yellow" simply meaning the attacks that are telegraphed by the yellow spark effect around the enemy. And this is just for a fun solo build I'm trying. Unlikely it'll ever see any serious group content beyond maybe random normals.

As for direct vs. AoE, I noticed that specifically the Crushing Blow attack from Uulgarg (fourth boss) cannot be dodged with Shadow Dancer, despite the dodge buff being clearly active when the attack lands. If I'm not mistaken this is definitely a single-target attack, but it may have some other unavoidable effect added on. Just another "fun quirk" of the game I suppose.

Direct damage can be dodged, but Area of Effect damage cannot.... usually. PvE has a few mechanics that kinda skirt and mess with the rules to try and make certain encounters more or less challenging. When it comes to player skills the skill in question has to read "It cannot be dodged" in order to get that same effect, like Fossilize for example. That skill is a single target direct stun, but it has the undodgeable rule on it.
