focused aim - where is that extra damage coming from?

I have snipe morphed to focused aim (snipe morph), and am considering swapping it out for silver shards for the ae and because I dont like the 0.8sec casttime. So I was testing both against a combat dummy to see how much higher focused aim is when its single target. Should be only about 5% difference according to the mouseover. But Im seeing an extra damage number popup ever time I shoot and I dont understand why. With oakensoul, orders wrath x5 and macabre x5 I get about 37k plus an extra 5k (on crit). Whats giving me that extra 5k? I dont get an extra damage number when I use silver shards so I dont think it can be a buff or it would do it for both.

I just noticed Im getting that on surprise attack as well. Do some skills just have a hidden bonus damage?

Possibly the sundered status effect. It procs off physical damage and causes instant damage and raises weapon damage for a few seconds. Focused aim has a guaranteed sundered proc.

Oh ok. Yea thats got to be it. Surprise attack also has sundered attached. Ive always just assumed sundered meant "lower armor value".

Both surprise attack and focused aim are guaranteed to apply sundered status effect as clearly stated in their tooltips.

Focused Aim is a weapon skill, so it procs your enchant each time you use it (if it's off cooldown), which should tick for a few thousand direct damage each time. (Assuming you have an enchant that deals damage.)

So if you do a light attack and snipe immediately, you would see that enchant proc with the light attack, not the snipe.

Silver Shards doesn't proc your enchants, so you'll instead see that enchant proc if you light attack right after.
