Expert IA ToT player is a joke.

Please consider the level of IA player in this game, it's a pure joke and boring...

IA constantly makes poorly and non-sense decisions even in Expert mode.

Like :

- Buying Black Sacrament with his 2 coins left with no enemy agent to kill...
- using power to damage a enemy agent THEN use Psyjic Loremaster Patron to kill it.
- Buying Ebonite Mine with no reason, just because he had some coins left.
- When he is dominate, sacrifying constantly the first card he played with Grand Master Hlaalu Patron no matter what.
- Playing Saint Alessia the worst possible way : using Saint'sWrath card after posing his own agents on the board is the best exemple.

Grand Masters are not better, just a bit different due to customized cards.

from what ive seen, all of the different difficulties of NPCs have basically the same AI

the main difference between them is higher difficulties have more decks to choose from, or upgraded cards, and how fast they play cards

novice - only has access to the 4 starter decks and 0 upgraded cards
proficient has access to all decks, but 0 upgraded cards
expert has access to all decks and all upgraded cards
grandmasters use unique decks with upgraded versions of the cards in the deck

there is some minor variations on the AI in what it chooses but in most cases they all play about the same, and this can be seen when using non-starter decks in matches with novice AI

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

in some ways yes, the other thing about them is they just become extremely predictable with what they will do

the novice ones like to remove all of the cards in their deck, though the AI was updated in gold road so they dont do this as much, but they still do make dumb choices, like using the treasury to turn a good card into a writ of coin

i mostly use rahjin + red eagle against the npcs because they predictably gimp themselves every time

Despite how predictable and (shall we say) "unwise" the AI tends to be, every so often it mops the floor with me, largely due to a combination of incredibly good luck for them and incredibly bad luck for me when it comes to the cards which are dealt and drawn during each round-- but also due to the choices it makes.

It isn't so much that the choices it makes tend to be bad ones, because they're usually smart and effective choices in certain circumstances.

It's more the case that the AI isn't smart enough to recognize when a particular decision that would be a good one under other circumstances is actually a bad one under the present circumstances-- in other words, an inability to adapt its strategies to fit the current situation.

Frankly, although I sometimes wish the AI were more adaptive and challenging, I think most players enjoy winning, and a lot of players might get upset if the AI were "too smart."

Looks like the same debate as Overland Difficulty...

when they changed the AI last year there was already a lot of complaints about how the novice ones became too hard

based on what ive seen all of the tribute NPCs use effectively the same AI with slight variances, so if one gets changed, it likely will change all of them

Yes, they’re all bad. There’s absolutely no challenge in playing against NPCs, their AI is laughable.
