Evil Endeavors?

Hello everyone. So, today we have another set of 'evil' endeavors -- that is, a nice juicy bonus endeavor (70 seals for Asylum Sanctorum) that it is VERY easy to lose out on. I do daily crafting writs and I use Custom Idle Animation -- if I hadn't checked the endeavors, I'd have completed the three lower value ones without noticing (2 Quests, Craft Items, Use an Emote). There is a pattern in these bonus endeavors of seeming to punish people who do Daily Crafting Writs when we log on.

I've looked on Minion and I see several endeavor tracking add ons. None of them, though, have the following function, so can I please make an appeal to all you add-on creators to add this/create a tiny one that does this:

** Please give us a big text alert on-screen when we first log on each day warning us if there is any daily endeavour worth more than x15 seals (standard value is either x10 or x15)

Many thanks

    Workaround:
When I logon I press P first and check endeavours, why would I need an addon for that? :#
Cuz you only need to do that even once on the first logged in character.

I'd start to train myself to do such an easy move first (also helps the brain) before asking for some automatism to get it even more boring to play the game :p

    Fun fact:
Beside that I already asked a few weeks ago in one of the endeavor related addons if such a hint could be added and the dev said it's a good idea.
So maybe you get such hint onscreen message in the future.

the endeavor tracker addon already works great, it even includes a little "bag" symbol next to dailies which give a special higher amount of rewards

i just focus on doing those first before doing other things

Wait, what is evil about completing Asylum Sanctorum? Did I miss something in the backstory/lore? I thought this post was going to be about Dark Brotherhood themed endeavors…

I think it’s fun to have these occasional extra endeavors worth more — I just check first when I log in. :)

i think the endeavors were "evil" for them because they completed 3 endeavors doing daily crafting writs and didnt even see the asylum trial bonus endeavor until it was too late

i totally agree that the best is to just look at them upon login, and addons like endeavor tracker make it easy to see without opening any menus and even display which one(s) have bonuses

Not only is pressing P and checking the Daily Endeavors the first thing I do when I log in on a server each day, I also check the web on sites such as BenevolentBowD and ESO-Hub long before logging in to see what the Daily Endeavors are that day, so I'll have some idea of how much time I can expect to spend on completing whichever three endeavors look most attractive.

Although it would be nice to get the extra Seals of Endeavor by completing the trial, I chose to pass on completing the Halls of Fabrication and I'll most likely pass on Asylum Sanctorium for the same reasons-- the constant possibility that I'll have to abort in the middle to deal with something, plus unfamiliarity with the content, so I'd rather not bail on a group or make things worse for them by making mistakes. I looked it up, and it does look quick and easy, but I've already got a nice pile of Seals of Endeavor and missing out on a few extra isn't going to break me.

Same here: if I'm interested in doing the more lucrative endeavours on any given day, then I always check the endeavours immediately after logging in. It's very easy to do.

I've trained myself to go through the endeavors when I log on and make a note of the ones that deliver more SoE. I nearly messed up with the Halls of Fabrication one a week or two ago and had to unslot my ultimate to ensure that I got the extra seals.

Yes, of course, the habit of checking is ONE solution. But it's NOT the best one. The bonus endeavors are a new thing. They are rare. The point is that when there are these evil endeavors that punish those of us that do daily crafting writs, it would be great to get a heads up and / or a reminder. Not everyone will think to look at endeavors (and not everyone has the same keybinds :)) because in the majority of circumstances it makes no difference to look. The bonus endeavors are exceptional situations. Having something that alerts us to this exceptional situation would be very useful.

I always check endeavours when I first log in, but I agree that a notification about endeavours with bonus seals would be a good option to add to to the addons for tracking them for people who want it. (People who don't can simply not use that option.)

One down-side for me to always checking endeavours as soon as I log in is it gets me into the mind set that they're my first priority. That'd often fine, but on days when I have limited time it's annoying that I feel torn between doing what I want to do or completing endeavours because I feel like I should. (Ideally I'll be able to encorporate them into what I want to do, but that's not always possible.)

When I feel like it's becoming a habit I'll break the cycle - stop checking and just go straight into what I want to do, but it would be annoying if that meant I miss an endeavour I would have liked to do which included bonus seals.

Having the option for an addon to let me know when one is available, without me having to check manually, would be an ideal compromise.

As others have said, I too always check the Endeavours and decide which I'm going to do and in what order.

But tbh - I thought this thread was going to be more about the Endeavours for - Murder, Steal or Pickpocket.

It doesn't bother me but I know some people try to play with an 'honest' character.

the endeavor tracker addon does show a little "bag" icon next to endeavors with bonus seals, if you have it to expand by default when you can still do endeavors, theres no need to even open any menus

It’s pretty silly to call endeavors with bonuses “evil endeavors”! We’re always alerted to timeframes to be on the watch for bonus endeavors — it’s not like they appear any time, randomly, without warning!

I normally start with crafting writs when I log on, but I check endeavors first now just in case. I don’t always choose to do them — if it’s a trial but my time is limited, maybe already doing a different trial with my guild, then I pass on the bonus that day. That doesn’t make it “evil.” I appreciate the opportunities and try to take advantage of most of them. :)

I suspect that when certain endeavors for a given day are going to be more challenging to complete, ZOS might be trying to keep most of the other endeavors very easy to complete. What you're calling "evil endeavors" are really just the ultra-easy ones which (I think) are there to help make up for, or counterbalance, the one or two others which are much more difficult.

Yes yes yes yes, I cannot believe how many people on these forums MISS THE POINT ENTIRELY by suggesting looking at the endeavors first.

Yes, they are evil if it is VERY easy for many people to miss out on them.

Yes, sure, you can look. Sure. Sure sure sure sure sure. HOWEVER. MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT LOOK AT THIS FIRST AND IT'D BE GREAT TO SAVE ALL THOSE PEOPLE FROM MISSING OUT.

New players. Old players. The bonuses are a NEW thing. Not everyone will think to look at them first. FOR MOST DAYS, LOOKING FIRST WILL BE UNNECESSARY.

What is so difficult to grasp about that?

We all got it, but calling a nice bonus option “evil” because you forgot or can’t be bothered to check is just silly.

Why is it so difficult for people to accept responsibility? If someone can't be bothered to check on something-- be it the daily endeavors or anything else in life-- and they miss out on something as a consequence, how is that on somebody else? I'm not trying to be rude or unsympathetic or whatever, but seriously, why is it so difficult to take 3 seconds out of ones life to pop up the list of daily endeavors immediately after logging in and glancing at what they are and how many SoE each one awards? Missing out the first time is an honest mistake. Getting upset about it but then not making such a trivial adjustment to your daily login routine, then missing out again on future occasions as a result of not having made that tiny adjustment, and still getting upset about it when it happens again, seems like it's on you.

This is why they should allow you to complete a more valuable endeavor after the first 3 and give you the difference in rewards.

I will still skip a few, like the second "trial" one since it was a pain, but it would allow the option to get the more valuable one later.

I would even like it to count all of them until complete. Some days just finishing them all "for fun" would be nice.

Difficult gameplay? This was a joke, right? :)

You should have played 2014 or a few years later then if you think this gameplay currently, where you only have to hit hit hit and the more dmg you output the easier it is, is difficult.

Again, you miss the point entirely. The bonus endeavours are a new thing and they are EASILY missed. They are also RARE. Again, of course of course of course it's possible to check them before. How many times do you need to hear that? Nevertheless, they are EASILY MISSED. The suggestion was for an alert to warn the player on log-in. In fact, that OUGHT to be base-game. Of course of course of course of course it's possible to get them without that. The player having to make a "trivial" adjustment to poor design is STILL poor design.

Yes, ZoS could add some kind of login alert about special endeavors. I imagine there would still be people would *still* manage to miss this and complain, but it might help.

They could also reprogram the whole endeavors system so that doing the special endeavor would still count even if the other endeavors had been completed that day, for example by automatically rewarding the difference between the special and a normal endeavor; or having the special endeavor replace a normal one that's already been done.

These are not, however, features included in u43. And imo, not something important enough for zos to spend any significant dev time on, but that part isn't up to me at all. Maybe it's a QoL feature they'll decide include in u44, but that's months away.

Addons could be a solution for some in the meantime, but on console folks don't have them; others don't use them; but most of all someone has to spend the time making one, which isn't going to happen overnight and the issue identified may not be of sufficient interest for an addon author to spend their time on. I don't know.

So anyway, for now I'd suggest getting in the habit checking the endeavors first thing if one is concerned about missing the special ones.

[Edit: I would also advise changing the subject of the post to reflect the subject matter more clearly, if the goal is to get the attention of an addon author and/or zos in solving this problem].

Just get in the habit of checking the daily endeavors before doing anything else, then if there is a bonus one do it first.
