Corpse Buster (Necromancer Class Set)

The idea that a set like this even exists in the game has me STOKED! But I strongly recommend removing the 0.5 sec cooldown from the 5 piece, otherwise this set is... underwhelming. Fun to use, sure, but I definitely feel it needs looked over again on the PTS before coming to live. At least make it a max corpse explosion of say 3 corpses at a time, making some of the corpse consumption skills a secondary s[pammable. Be nice to see some detonating syphons as a corpse explosion build! Or when summoning animate blast bones, you can do a bit more damage upfront before they all lunge at the target! Just a thought. Would love to hear some feedback @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_BrianWheeler @ZOS_MattFiror

    Honestly if they just leave it as is no one will bother with it. I think it’d be better if class sets were 3 or 4 pieces instead of 5. They just don’t do enough to be worth it

    This set honestly just further shows that ZOS have no idea how necro is actually played. In order to take full advantage of this set you have to essentially proc it on cooldown. This is completely impossible since you can only cast corpse consuming abilities every 1 second. Furthermore you can't just sit there spamming corpse consumers. You also have to use corpse generators, which further increases the amount of time between set procs.

    Even if you look past that and still go forward with trying to make a build with this, what corpse consumers are you gonna use exactly? You only have 2, Boneyard and Syphon. Boneyard can't be spammed and Syphon's detonation is weak by itself. So if you intend to just sit there spamming Detonating Syphons you'll be massively gimping yourself by not using a proper spammable. You'll gain a bit of damage by using this set per detonation but then you immediately lose it because the base detonation is weak. Not to mention you're not gonna be taking advantage of the strong DOT portion that Syphon has and its unique property of ticking every 0.6 seconds.

    Another thing you gotta remember is something I highlighted in a different thread: Why would you waste your time farming this when you have much better options that take less time to farm? Hell, you probably already have Pillar, Aegis Caller, Runecarver, Azure Blight, or Elemental Catalyst to name a few, already in your stickerbook. All of which are much, MUCH better options than this. So why would you ever spend days, if not weeks farming this meh set?

    And the proc can only occur once per ability cast.
    And the proc damage is bad.

    Corpsebuster does a great job at highlighting both class design and set itemization issues at the same time. Nice work

    I think the idea of this set is good, and I'm glad to have a dps class set for necromancer, but they need to remove the 0.5 second cooldown on it. As it seems right now, if you use an aoe corpse consuming ability on a pile of bodies, you'd only get one explosion, a bit underwhelming.

    I agree that the 0.5 needs to be changed to up to X corpses per corpse consumer. This set can add some identity to the class I wish it was incorporated into a passive or maybe Detonating Siphon, but this is a good idea at it's core. Letting the three mulit corpse consumer skills take advantage of this will add much needed oomph to the skill and give it use in all areas of the game.

    It won't be overpowered and without a lot of effort wouldn't even match up to the old performance of the Graverobber/Harmony combo which was massacred to Oblivion for being too strong, but doesn't hold a candle to the current power and ease of bombing in PvP.

    Corpse explosion should have just been a skill from the get go. If they just made skulls detonate corpses in the area it might be alright.

    I think it's possible that ZOS is also making some changes to corpse mechanic and this set might make more sense once patch notes drop.

    I have no idea why they thought adding a cooldown was necessary when corpses have an innate cooldown already. All this set does is encourage you to not slot AoE corpse consumers; with the cooldown, using an AoE corpse consumer will just pick a corpse at random to explode, which is clunky and awful.

    They need to give this class set the Nobility in decay treatment and allow it to create more corpses from natural Necro skills, on top of the fact that they need to remove the cooldown.

    If they were to do both, maybe it'd be worth using.

    Only necromancer players have to be concerned with sets.

    depends on if that 2805 scales up with weapon and spell damage. That would be a ton of damage for a proc, and would be insane if it had no internal cooldown to allow for shotgun AOE bursts.

    To put it in context, Anthelmirs construct only has a base of 1572 with a 10 second cool down (5 if you're not a wimp) on a single target. Tarnished nightmare does even less at 1129 on an 8 second cool down in an aoe. If it's scaling up to like 15K per proc on a fully buffed and kitted necro it's gonna make people rage

    You have to consider it's only 5 meters, smaller than that of Tarnished nightmare, so gathering people 5 meters on that specific corpse isn't going to be super lucrative to do.

    I can't imagine people standing super close to a corpse unless it's in a tight space like a tower of flag.

    Maybe pair it with dark convergence then we could say it's a rage inducing set, but without a pull I doubt the effectiveness of a 5m burst proc that's centered on a stationary corpse.

    I feel you, but I know this community. Some mega sweat will find a way to insta triple corpse shotgun people consistently, make a video about it, and then everyone else will start doing it, and the FotM Magsorcs will hop on it, and then it'll be everywhere and everyone will be doing it until it gets double or halved repeatedly until its out of the game.

    Or they could just play it safe with a .5 second ICD and what looks to be a very generous tool tip

    This is why Necro is in the state it is now. It's the main class that gets knee-jerk sledgehammer nerfs at complaints to the point where most of its kit is garbage now. The class itself needs BIG buffs to counteract the initial clunkyness that has persisted since release to the consistent removals of the few things that made it unique and impactful. Tiny safe changes will have Necro on par with other classes by the 20th Anniversary if server last that long.

    No one will be jumping on this class because of one set if the rest of the kit is subpar. They'll stick with the low barrier to entry, swiss army knife class kit NB and sorc that make up 50% of the Cyro population.
