Does Anyone Else Not Play the Daily Player Competition Game Because of Time?

Every time I've tried a game against another player, they literally don't make a move until the end of the timer. It makes the game go on forever. It's not even worth the time for a daily endeavor. What do players do this? I haven't qued in years.

    i mostly dont play against players because i dont find it enjoyable, i have a much much higher win rate on the npcs lol

    and with the npcs due to their predictable AI, i can more easily control how long i want to be in a match

    i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

    Intentional stalling was a somewhat common behavior when the game was introduced. I still see it sometimes, but very rarely. Some people play slower than others, but in most cases people do value their time.

    I gave up playing matches against other players after giving them a try for about one week, mainly because it took too long for me to win three matches for the daily. I even dropped my goal down to just a single win, hut even that took too long-- not because of the opponents drawing out their moves, but because they were so much better than I was.

    I hope I've improved a lot since then, but I still tend to avoid the PvP matches unless there's a Daily Endeavor for it and I can't find three other ones that I want to complete.

    This is part of why I never got into Tribute. I'm going to overthink and second guess everything, and it's going to take me forever to make a move. I'm not going to do that to some poor rando, and there's not really any worthwhile rewards for playing against friends. It put me off the whole thing, honestly.

    I doubt you care much about the opinion of someone who doesn't play, but there it is. Anxiety of annoying someone in exactly the way you're annoyed put me off the whole thing. I'm grateful to you for proving that my irrational fear was actually rational.

    I would say it's semi-rational. There are people who don't take a long time to take their turn, but who finish their turn and intentionally (or negligently) wait the timer out. I can't say for sure, but it seems like they want the other player to concede.

    The occasional player who takes a while is no big deal, because it's not malicious. But it's people stalling to either be salty, to win, or just not focusing on the game that can bother people.

    Personally, I'm a very slow thinker when there's a lot going on. I have an addon that shows my time vs my opponent's time used, and it's been interesting to note that mine are always longer--whether I win or lose. Haven't received any complaints yet, and sometimes I try to not overthink and make a quick-but-imperfect decision.

    i enjoy playing tribute against the npcs, mostly because there is no turn timer, you can sit on your turn however long you need to read all of the cards and such, and the npc wont complain about it lol

    it is great at helping learn the decks, so you can see which cards you should try to prioritize when playing against other players (if you decide to play other players at all)

    right now the only times i usually play other players is purely to get the card upgrades for a deck, because at least 1 card upgrade requires using the decks patron in a pvp tribute match 10 times (cumulatively, does not have to be in the same match)

    When I first started playing Tribute, for the first few weeks it took me a bit of time to look over each card before I could decide which ones to buy.

    But the more you play and become familiar with the cards and patrons, the more quickly you should be able to decide which cards you want to buy, which cards you want to leave untouched so your opponent will be distracted and buy them (so they'll leave the cards you wanted but couldn't buy yet alone), etc.

    Nowadays I pretty much snatch up the cards I want as soon as my turn begins, without having to sit there for a minute or two and scratch my head over it.

    When I am riding the public transportsystems in my city, I am playing from time to time *Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links* on my smartphone to pass the time. There I do like to play pvp-matches, because how the leaderboard works is 100% transparent (you have major ranks, which are divided into sub-levels, for increasing in ranks you need a certain amount of wins (in mid ranks its 3 wins) and you can not fall in rank, by loosing you will only reset the amount of wins you need to increase in rank). In addition to that there is a general timer ticking for each player. That timer starts at 240 seconds (4 min) and counts down. If it reaches zero (0) you will loose automatically. If you play the game, the timer will get a few seconds back, but if not, it will count down. With that stalling tactis won't work that much and you do know that after 4 min doing nothing a match will end.

    Compared to the hourclass in ToT, which resets the timer with every turn to the same time, I do find this general timer way better.

    I stopped queuing for pvp matches cause everyone always chooses crow for the rng or deliberately screw you over within the first 3 turns. Playing against npcs is like the difference between overworld mobs vs vet hm dungeon bosses though.

    This. I hate stalling tactics. I also can't understand how the other player can run down the timer, but then I'm the one penalized by the timer running out faster for me if I try to do the same thing. Didn't make sense, so I only play against other players once in a great while - for the card upgrades, if nothing else.

    Each players gets the same amount of time.

    I do the npc and player dailies every day 'cause I genuinely love the game.

    As far as time, I'm usually multitasking when I play (was actually writing this while playing, lol), and try not to take a long time on my turns, but things happen. Once in a great while someone complains, and I apologize assuming it lets me send the reply (e.g. if their status isn't set to "offline"). But the timer's there for a reason - if I take too long then I lose my turn and possibly the game - and I think it's set to a fair amount (minute and a half per turn).

    The rewards versus the time commitment is utter garbage. I know this is an all to common theme across ESO but the developers really are taking a *** on this one. Cards are supposed to be a relaxing side activity yet a time sink required to earn meager rewards is more consuming than a veteran dungeon or trial.

    Please make this game rewarding. Stop introducing cool new mechanics only to gimp them behind a horrible grind and devalue the players time for wanting to do partake in these new activities. tribute, vet dungeons, archives, scribing - all these great features that people would flock to if only the devs made them rewarding. Why is this game afraid to make the end game and new stuff rewarding? They try to walk this tightrope not wanting to make the balance of these new features stand above the old free stuff at the expense of losing their player base.

    They are soon to loose the MMO exon consoles and if they do niot take the steps to reward long standing customers with gameplay then I am afraid all the free logon rewards will not retain this player base.
