Why do some housing items go in my inventory and others do not?

When I am inside a home and I browse to find items to place here and there, there are tons of items. Some of them are in my inventory on my character and some are not. What causes that?

Are they items my "character" has acquired from scrying and finding here and there? The only way I can find to get them out of my inventory are to place them in a house or destroy them.

if they are not in your inventory then they are collectibles.

collectible furnishings are things like non-combat pets, mounts, the armory station, monster trophies, or the Blackwood Tapestry

Thank you, I thought so but was hoping to find some way of storing those other than parking them in a house or a box.

Some of them are probably collectibles (busts/trophies from dungeons). Some of them may be in your bank if they're not in your inventory. Or they may be in any storage containers you purchased for your houses. Note that items in storage boxes only show up if you have that box placed in the house.

Regardless whether they're in your inventory, in the bank, or in storage boxes, you can place them in your house. However, if you pick the item back up it'll always go back to your inventory regardless where it came from initially. So occasionally you'll see multiple non-stacked items if you have more than one of the same item, but one's in your inventory while the other is in your bank.

The specific items quoted don't need to be stored anywhere. They're collectibles that can be used in multiple houses at once and don't take up any kind of storage space.
