Bankomancer

Since stalking BB was removed from the game and zero effort was made on making necro a working class I am wondering what you all plan to use your necromancer for?

Are you going to use it as a bank alt or even delete your character perhaps? Are you going to continue to play the class but cry as you spam ricochet skull?

Just curious what you all have planned.

I'm going to still use mine and either use Blighted Blastbones or, if it does well in parses, the new morph.

I'm around 100k parsing on PTS with a 20sec static dot rotation with the new blastbone change in a FULLY ranged magicka build. Making it very very easy to use in combat. This also gets the DPS to the level of most end-game trial guilds and is good enough to get you slotted in the hardest content of the game...except in score pushing groups. Also, using gear sets like Whorl of Depths, Runecarver's Blaze, and Deadly Strikes now do optimized damage on this class. Whorl of Depths does nearly the same damage as Relequen and its AOE. Maelstrom backbar is killer....Blockade of Storms does like 12% of your DPS now with the class buffing it 10% and the new morph buffing it another 15% and then running thurmaturge which is another 6%. If you throw on Deadly its 15% more damage on-top....for a whopping 46% buff to dots and then add a fire stave for an additional 12% raising it all the way to 58%. The class can now easily run Zen's as well for group DPS instead of a DK.

I don't mind this change. I mean, for parse monkeys and YOUTUBE look at me vs a dummy, it is probably a loss, and for Top Tier Score Pushing Necro's that have mastered the class it is likely a loss. But for the average player up to a Progressive Trifecta player, it is likely a neutral change with A MUCH SIMPLER rotation and ease of use. Lower Necro Players it's likely a gain and maybe trifecta players possibly a marginal loss. However, in order to get this damage and have this simple of a rotation Boneyard is dropped and not used...which is kinda a blessing, as it has a super short duration compared to all the other necro skills, small area, and a high cost. The buff of consuming a corpse only helps the single skill so ehhh....I hate the animation of that skill too, as its super cheesy (grave stones popping up) and also clunky in its summoning.

However in most group scenario's necro's are already relegated to wearing non-bis gear like War Machine or its MAgicka counterpart or elemental catalyst etc....which cause you to loose a lot of player DPS for the benefit of HIGHER group DPS already. So complaining about not being able to parse 150k on a dummy is kinda moot already since 99% of necro's aren't allowed to run the best gear for the class anyway when actually in raids.

As for PVP, not sure, as that is hard for a solo tester to check on PTS. But, a few years ago, ZOS changed dots to do ridiculous damage and doubled the cost of them, and it ruined PVP. Everyone was pressured to death by simply throwing 3 to 4 DOTS on an enemy. It gave such heaping large numbers of DOT damage that everyone melted, healing unable to compensate. It took only 1 patch (3 months) for it to be completely gutted and reverted...cause 28 meter builds with every sticky DOT that they could muster just destroyed everyone. It seems the Necro may be able to build to be a long range killer like this now, but be the only class capable of doing so, instead of every class. Giving it a unique NICHE that may end up very effective...This is just in theory and on paper, as again I haven't tested. Buffing the finisher Crit chance like they also did this patch will help with this, (as it was previously nerfed far too hard). As a player that has 3 to 4 NECRO DOTS that are being buffed 50% by the class's design that all start criting at near 100% chance when they fall to 25% health will be a very tough thing to fight against.

This is change, and like all change it takes time to master and get used to as well as build for. Who knows what top-end gamers will be able to come-up with using this down the road....ALSO WHO KNOWS WHAT IS COMING IN THE CHAPTER PATCH WITH THE NEW SPELL CRAFTING SYSTEM.....

Remember the opening line of the first patch notes 5 weeks ago, was about making changes to re-balance in preparation for the new crafting system....there may be some skills that are coming that can be built to really take use of this necro change...THE DEVS know this....and we as of now don't.

All 3 of my necros already run pure RP builds that are unique to necromancer class:
    1. Shapeshifter chain + some extra ulti gen here and there (being nord, daedric trickery, necrotic potency, pots, decisive backbar). Goliath on one bar, berserker werewolf on another bar. The only class that can have 2 transformation ultimates.

    2. Self-synergy build with Lady Thorn + Gryphon's reprisal + Alkosh, harmony jewelry for sustain. Other classes can run this of course, but with one less synergy, so less benefit. I really wanted to make class set build for this character, but the class set is not even working, so I will continue suffering with this synergy build.

    3. Mass-ressurector. Hanu's companion backbar, baron zudrus, pearls, shalks frontbar, again some extra ulti gen via skills and decisive trait.

Obviously, none of these builds are competitive in any way, just for fun of it.

I’m disappointed that they didn’t listen to all the feedback given.

Trying to buff up the class is fine.

But I feel completely removing the main spamable of a class is the wrong way to go about it.

It feels like them removing crystals frags from sorcs and just saying ah well, you’ve got crystal weapon still + a buff to your other sorc skills.

Or taking healing jabs of a Templar.

or removing DK’s whip for it to just be a passive boost.

    I could go on.

    ———

It’s just turning necro into the same as all other classes for pve, dots down use spamable, I enjoyed the variety that playing necro gave us.

I won't be playing necro at all. In most content you don't need a rotation. Necromancer was already slow at getting damage out and with the new blastbones requiring the player to be in combat it will be even slower. Two flails from an arcanist kills most overland enemies in pve, meanwhile the necro doesn't even have it's buff yet...

    This.

Dot builds deal damage too slowly for any content below vet trials yet don't do high enough damage to be top tier in end game.

Seriously, there is zero reason to play Necro for any content at this point. Arcanist is an order of magnitude easier, does way more dps,. Even a, nerfed, one-bar oakensoul HA build is better in terms of ease of use and dps.

I'm going to play one of them enough to get tier 3 during Mayhem as a bit of a send off, then strip it down for storage and collecting survey reports. The other is already a bank bot after the harmony nerf.

Yes it's really disappointing. My Necro will actually be a bit stronger in vet group content (I'm relegated to HA builds because of my hands), but GLS won't do much for me elsewhere and frankly it feels less and less like I'm playing an actual Necromancer.

I've been playing Guild Wars 2 recently after 10 years away from the game, and I'd forgotten just how GOOD and THEMATICALLY COHESIVE Necro is to play there. It makes ESO's Necromancer look pitiful by comparison - and this BB change is another step down the ladder in that regard.

Then again as I look at GW2 vs. ESO I think there's a lot that ZOS could learn about properly defining class identity. Granted, different gameplay systems and all that, but the way the classes there look and feel to play... they embody their envisioned identity. When I play Elementalist, Necromancer, Engineer, or whatever, I FEEL like that's what I'm playing. In ESO outside of one or two thematic class skills on my bar, I can barely tell any difference.

That said there's more nuance to that issue than just lackluster class skill lines.

This is absolute treasure of a comment.

I main necromancer bc i love the sfx of class skills, and when I chose a class I want to embody the class. What's the point if two classes look the same to even pick one? Necromancer has potential, it has great effects, but it works BADLY. Ive been onto HM raids (vSS vKA vRG) maining necro as heal and dps, and each time I told myself "why do I bother to even struggle this hard playing a class that does not reward the learning curve it asks".

Old blastbones was for me already a problem; first source of damage, unreliable if fight asks mobility, you have to track it, but extremely rewarding if done correctly. I use to always precast it - i cast it few seconds before the tank takes the aggro so the blastbones falls exactly where i aimed and i can directly engage with a well placed corpse - but it is as well so clunky.

I deleted my DK the first time I ran one to lvl 50; I got absolutely outraged by how easy it was to play, while permetting me flexspots, cleaving decently, having reliable (and even top tier) self buffs, and first timing parse at higher dps than my necromancer. I did not even know the class yet, my skills were not even maxed, it made me realize the efforts that ive been putting all those years sticking to my necromancer by love of its thematics were absolutely not rewarding at all. Necromancer suffers from fights asking to be mobile, tanks dont get reliable self healing, i dont give anything when I main heal another class can't give because of archdruid and turning tide, i just feel pointless.

At least I can paint the ground with blue skulls when I heal (i love this spell and for nothing in the world I would go healing without it) - but I suffer to always have to justify myself when I pick the classe I'm the best on, I know the most, bc others look so coherent, cohesive and much more useful for a group. And dont kick me about the arcanist - I think arcanist, just as oakensoul, are a very bad omens. They mean nothing right, inciting players to not learn mechanics and difficulties of your own game (that used to be balanced around those difficulties) is the least thing to do. Results are; arcanists are everywhere, and I still have to justify to enter a group even if I'm perfectly on point on content and mechs.

Im just the catalyst mule by default.

Warden and Templar also have delayed burst but you don’t need delayed burst to kill noobs anyway. It’s far easier to 1 shot a noob with a merciless proc than use blastbones.

This is really hard because I love my necro and I started playing it as a hybrid from the start. This was before hybridization. After hybridization, I find that the best I could do is going almost full mag-melee build. I recently tried switching to Blighted Blastbones to test it and of course it required more stam sustain. With a more hybrid type of set-up I felt far weaker, especially in long fights which pressed my resources. Sad to say but I'm probably going to have to main my sorc or play Minecraft. I have a character of each class but I don't enjoy playing them all the same. DK is too meta so I don't want to play that. Templar is boring. I still play it in overland because that was my first class and it is my grand master crafter with all of my achievements. I honestly find my Night Blade to be too simple and boring too. I said all that to emphasize how much this decision sucks.

I'm of the mind that eventually they're going to allow for class skill customization or, at the very least, additional class skills that you can tweak yourself. Might be something they do for the 2025 Chapter but at the very least it's a system that could, potentially, give people options to work with for the class kit.

Also it's nice to see you provide parse numbers with GLS being used, nice to see that GLS isn't actually killing the class as much as the pts forums are making it sound like.
