I need helpful advice on Veteran dungeons and arenas

Can anyone give advice on getting through Vet-lvl dungeons and arenas? I can crawl through normal, but veteran level is out. I have been fighting this since BETA. My problem is the pause between actions. In normal Maelstrom and others or just dungeons, I can get through them. Veteran level is a different story. Because of the pause between actions, it allows the critters to overwhelm me and after several tries I just give up. I've tried several builds and so far I've got no where and some normal content I've had the same bad luck in some of the newer dungeons. This is true for both the solo content and group content to were it gets so bad I can't stay alive even if I'm in a group. I'm getting to my wits end on this, is it my ISP, my pc, the game, my hardware or all of the above? I feel I'm really getting cheated out of so much of the game because of it, dropped by several guilds because I can't get gear, can't keep up, and haven't ever been given a chance to do a trial. Is anyone else having this pause problem and what did you do to fix it? I'm going through several sources to try and find an answer.

Consider a heavy attack oakensoul build. I find I can complete vMA with consistent ping in the 500 ms range and the occasional spike to 999+. In normal trials, I've been able to survive several minutes of 999+ ping, though when that happens the other players are carrying me, so I generally opt out. The advantage of oakensoul is both the defensive value and that you aren't constantly having to check whether your weapon swap actually occurred. The gear for this build is also very easy to farm. If you are still having trouble, or your ping is well over 500, consider oakensoul plus sergeants and leeching plate - it's very resistant to high ping deaths when solo.

I do get the pauses you are mentioning at times without it showing on the ping meter. In single player instances, if you are in there for over an hour or so, it can help to shut the game down (ctrl-alt-delete on PC, not "quit" using the in game menu) and log back in within 5 minutes. If you do it quickly, you won't lose your score and it can help with the lag that tends to accumulate over time (but not show as higher ping) in these instances. It's been years since I've had to do it in vMA, but I assume it still works there, because I still use it from time to time when soloing a dungeon begins to take too long.

In my case, I believe it's my ISP - it gets overloaded on Friday nights and I get issues similar to the ones you are describing. Saturday morning, it's gone. Interestingly, in PvP areas, you can always tell when you are about to run into a mid-size or larger group because the lag momentarily goes through the roof!

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I’m not sure what you mean by pause between actions. Are you experiencing a lot of lag?

@Soarora Well when it comes to lag, what I experience in Cyrodiil and what I mean by pause are two different monsters. When I watch someone's video on the game, their movements and strikes, spells, actions are smooth and quick. My game play is more like swing-pause-spell-pause-any other action-pause, etc. I've never been able to do that animation cancelation. When I'm in Cyrodiil, everything I do, even if it's just riding around is move-stop-swing-stop, etc. were several seconds between each movement as too just a split second-pause. Though that pause will get you killed in vMA. So I was wondering if anyone else had this and was able to make a build to compensate for it. Or had a fix to their pc or hardware or anything that would help.

You don't need to do animation canceling to get through vMA. Players have beaten it with no skills on their bar and just bow light attacks or shield bashing (gandork). It sounds like you need to work on your movement and placing down AoEs that does damage to enemies and cast DoTs on them so they take damage while you move around. Avoiding and dodging damage is as important as doing damage.

Have you tried the steps in https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/#en/answer/9094?

My ping to the NA servers is about 40 ms and I'm not having a lag issue on PS/NA, but I'm guessing your ping is higher.

@pelle412 The animation cancelation was as for PvP play not PvE, sorry for the confusion.

@SirLeeMinion Thanks for that, I have a sergeants build though right at this moment I don't recall the other gear. I'll take note of what you said and give vMA another try. Thanks again.

Update; Did a normal run MA and was able to finish with no death. Just finished vMA and was doing fine up till the spiders, died once. Then the poison killed me once, because the magic-users didn't provide a magic dome, died the second he started screaming. Then the last level, died 4 times because my skills and abilites wouldn't fire, I just had to stand there and take being killed. I finished it but it wasn't any fun at all. Just no fun at all.

@Grimtooth you are experiencing what every single "Stormproof" player has gone through in VMA. The place is glitchy on top of your personal connectivity issues. Lots of desyncs will happen in the ice, poison, Igneous Cavern, and final stages. I have been unknowingly killed by a nereid bolt (ice), a poison flower (poison), a kyngald (Igneous), and by a kynlurker (final) that I never saw hit me. Then there is the DOT the Crematorial Guards put on you that sometimes does not show up on your health bar until your resources drop to zero. And of course the Narkynaz that, even when you know the spawn points, there will occasionally be one or two that just appear on the ring in the middle.

Oh, and the best one: your skills will not work all of the time on the final round. Heals, both Vigor and Twilight Matriarch, and skills like Hurricane/Boundless Storm often do not fire so you find yourself button mashing. Oh joy.

Its a constant irritant, but one that appears to have become a "mechanic" in VMA. I've had my best success in there with a Stamina Arcanist and the Oakensorc, but I can tell you that the Arcanist makes it a whole new level of easy. Not just the damage, but the shields as well.
