Starting Another Character Question

It's been a long time since I started a new character. Wanted to start one today and I somehow get sent to some lady and I have to defeat a critter. Then I can choose where to go. Do we not go to the soul meld anymore starting out?

Thanks!

Correct, the tutorial was changed a few years ago to be Balfiera and that is how its staying for the foreseeable future.

It's a pity there's no access to the old tutorials anymore, as in having a choice which one to play. I don't create many new characters anymore, but if I would, I'd probably find it more interesting in being able to play different tutorials instead always the same one (or skipping it completely).

Don't forget to invest any CP you have on the new character :)
(Not that I have ever forgotten to do that. ever. nope. not me.)

Yeah I almost forgot about the CP for sure! Applied all of that and started the quests for KRoost. Loving the new Arcanist build I am working on. So much fun! :)

I thought the tutorial changed with each new chapter. Has that stopped being the case?

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's asking the community for assistance.

    Thank you for your understanding

    Yes, since 2021.
Personally, I think it would be really nice if these old tutorials were restored, and also that the game gave new characters the option of picking which one of them to start with. :) In other words, it could be just another step of the new character configuration.

Having this tutorial quest ending up in a room filled with portals and so many different places to go just seems weird and wrong to me.

It was very confusing to someone who has been with this game since beta. I had several characters when I stopped playing and had not made a new one in quite some time so I was shocked when I didn't see Lyris at my cell door. Then this chick gives me several options on where to go. If I were a new to ESO player I would have been super confused. I knew what to pick based on my alliance. A new to ESO player wouldn't know where to go.

Maybe the options to a brand new player who never completed any tutorial are different as the game knows I have completed the previous tutorial. :/

There are two issues here that are unnecessarily being tied together. Which tutorial should a player do to learn the basics of the game, and where should a brand-new player join the game after completing the tutorial.

The current situation makes an attempt by giving the player the choice, but for someone new to the game, that is an uninformed guess. It has been pointed out that the game knows if this is not your first character, and offers to skip the tutorial. This could be extended to offer only the start points already known, so for the first character, there is no choice (start in coldharbour), for someone who has already visited each of the Alliance starter zones, they get three more choices. Chapter zones get added on the same basis; if visited on a prior character, they’re available.

A “more training” choice could take you to the older tutorial locations. Whether they release the character into the world where they originally did, ir just back to the zone choice, is debatable.

I don't mind there being just the one tutorial, but Balfiera bugs me because it hides the alliance start portals in the back of the room. That is where players should start, not with the latest chapter. At minimum, there should be two big portals, one to the new Chapter, and one that takes them to the base game starting location for their alliance, with a layover in the non-tutorial Wailing Prison. The latter starts them on the right and proper path through the story, where all the dialog makes sense.

I don't see the need for a tutorial area. It should go directly to where you are taken to coldharbour, then into the alliance story. If there must be a tutorial area fit it in with where you meet that tall half giant whose name escapes me, in cold harbour. That would stop all the confusion.

It is also annoying that you can't go to the "select the zone to start in" if you do not run through the current tutorial again. Waste of past efforts!

I was even more confused when I finished KRoost and spawned into Auridon. Suddenly met with a hooded chick asking me to meet her employer. Did that and then I was taken to the old tutorial with Lyris. After I finished, the game put me BACK at KRoost, the place I just completed! :)
