Stamina stacking question

How does stamina affect tooltips? Does anyone have a link or something. Does 3k stamina mean 300 points higher on a tooltip?

So to start, max stamina by itself doesn't mean anything at all. You need to take the higher of your max stam or max mag due to the way the combat system has been hybridized. From now on I'll just refer to that as max stat. This is why if you are looking to get the highest possible damage you still need to stack entirely into one resource pool.

Max stat needs to first be converted to spell/weapon damage. After that you need to know the specific intercept and coefficients of the skill in question in order to calculate the tooltip difference. Generally speaking though you can skip that second part since you're really just looking for effective spell/weapon damage in total.

The rough estimate is 10.1 max stat is equal to 1 spell/weapon damage. So as an example - if your max stam is higher than max mag and you equip, say, a piece of gear that gives you a "line" of max stamina (1096 stamina) you'll get roughly the same as 108.5 spell/weapon damage which is slightly less than a "line" of spell/weapon damage (129). I should mention that this assumes the scale between them is still roughly 10.1-to-1. It's been a while and I don't really remember if they ever made any updates to this since summerset.

EDIT: Edited for clarity in terms, I hope.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's asking the community for assistance.

    Thank you for your understanding

It will differ wildly from skill to skill. A low level DoT might go up by 100 if you add 3K stamina. A hard-hitting single-target direct damage attack might go up by 1200 if you add 3K stamina. And a huge ultimate might go up by 2500 if you add 3K stamina.

You can usually get a good idea of tooltip effect if you go by percentages. Like if your highest damage stat is weapon damage at 4000, and your highest resource stat is stamina at 25K, that is essentially 10.1 * 4000 + 25K = 65400 "power". If you add 3K stamina, you now have 10.1 * 4000 + 28K = 68400 "power". 68400 / 65400 = 1.045. So your tooltips should go up by about 4.5%. There is more that goes into final damage calculation than just highest weapon/spell damage and highest magicka/stamina, but that should be in the ballpark.

@Dagoth_Rac Thanks this exactly what I was looking for. I am trying to figure out if I can get a higher tooltip by stacking stamina first as high as possible, and then stacking WD or vice versa.

Consider googling the "UESP Build Editor". It lets you play around with equipping different sets and different skills and different attributes and different food and slotting different CP. Then I think it will recalc the tooltips of skills based on new data. It also has an "effective power" field which takes into account resources, SD/WD, crit chance, crit damage, penetration, and so on. Because a modest tooltip that crits a lot can be better than a high tooltip that rarely crits. Or a high tooltip with no penetration will only hit for a fraction of that tooltip in real combat. And so on.

I'll save you the trouble: Damage. Always.

There are no max-stat sets that even come close to the numbers that damage sets provide especially when you consider what i mentioned before about 1 line of max stat providing less damage that 1 line of damage on the 2-4 bonuses of each set. And to top it off there are only two classes that have any kind of percentage modifiers for max stats and they absolutely pale in comparison to major and minor brutality/sorcery which can give you a 30% boost. It's not even close. This is why nobody bothers with max stat builds anymore outside of Emperors and frankly, I don't even know if they bother anymore.

As much as I disliked the old CP system one thing that it had going for it was the percentage boost to all max stats. Removing that basically killed all max-stat builds right then and there. Making damage sets scale from weapon and spell damage was just the service before final burial.
