Starting Over - Need Advice

I haven't played in close to 2 years, I also deleted all my toons when I stopped playing, I thought starting fresh someday would be good. I created a new toon from scratch but missed my original main master crafter. Luckily, support was able to revive her, problem is she came back kind of weird.

When I logged in she had no armor or weapons, 330 skill points, none of which were applied to any skills, and all zone and main quests were reset. I was even greeted by the hooded lady, so I ran through Coldharbour without gear and punched my way through. A lot of delves, public dungeons and some other locations are showing as undiscovered as well. I'll also have to reacquire my companion.

So, I'm starting over and I need advice on a few things. My toon is a magsorc, CP1040, all core skills are at 50, most other skills are maxed, Mages, Fighters, Psjic, etc. I have very little gold but my craftbag is got plenty of mats.

I'd like to get her a basic craftable set of gear and a decent skill set but I'm not sure where to start. I don't want a pet build, I don't have any mythic items, dungeon, or trial gear. Most of the build guides I've seen aren't for beginners, Alcast has a CP160 build but uses Mother's Sorrow and a Matriarch. I could swap Mother's Sorrow for another set and use a different healing skill than the Matriarch. He's using Mother's Sorrow as a 4 piece set and 3 Willpower jewelry pieces.

Any suggestions or leads to build guides for a non-pet magsorc with fully craftable equipment? Or suggestions towards modifying Alcast's CP160 build?

As a starting point I created this build on the UESP build editor:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoBuildData?id=589645

I'm open to any suggestions, right now though it's all craftable gear as I can't afford to buy anything and nothing I have is good for dungeons or even overland mobs.

Ps start doing daily crafting writs on multiple characters (especially if they are doing rank 1 materials)
    Get hirlings with skill points

If your craft bag is full you might sell some upgrade materials like gold jewelcrafting stuff for some good money

My non pet mag sorcs wear Order's Wrath and Julianos, for ease of access, I use a lightning staff so a few heavy attacks and sustain isn't ever a problem.

I use Sugar Skulls for harder solo stuff and Witchmother's Potent brew when I'm feeling cheap!

Might be worth aiming for a decent Monster set too, I cannot advise on those as I generally use the Oakensoul Ring mythic, so one bar only and one piece of a monster set, usually something that adds more crit so Slimecraw is easy to get and does the job.

    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

This is what I craft when I am levelling an alt (skewed towards ranged magicka):

    Order's Wrath:
    - 1x Lightning Staff, Precise, front bar, fire, poison or shock damage
    - 1x Necklace, Bloodthirsty/Infused/Arcane, increase magical harm OR increase magicka recovery enchant
    - 2x Ring, Bloodthirsty/Infused/Arcane, increase magical harm enchant

    Wretched Vitality:
    - 1x Inferno/Lightning Staff, Infused, back bar, weapon damage enchant
    - 1x Chest, heavy for more resistances OR light for more critical
    - 1x Legs, medium for higher attributes from undaunted OR light for more critical
    - 1x Boots, light

    Law of Julianos:
    - 1x Gloves, light
    - 1x Belt, light
    - 1x Shoulder, light
    - 1x Helmet, light

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

Looks like Wretched Vitality, Order's Wrath, and Julianos are in the consensus. I'm going to use Julianos for my staves and the other 2 sets for gear and jewelry. Before I quit last time I was thinking of trying out healing so I'm going to go with the restoration staff on the back bar, obviously not as a full healer but it should help get me used to using it in a combat rotation.

I have put points in all hirelings, got my 1st emails this morning. Prior to restoring this toon, I was working on leveling an Orc for crafting, he can do low level daily writs. I have to say I'll probably do crafting writs but before I quit I was working and coming home doing dailies on 12 toons. It really burned me out on ESO. I'm retired now and playing on console, so I'll be a bit more chill.

I have 2 other toons, the Orc Templar was going to be my future crafter and I have a Nord Templar. Both are around lvl 24, I'll use the NLF to level them to 50 and then work on increasing my CP above 1040. I'll have to give some thought to what I'll use the Orc and Nord for going forward.

Since my MagSorc has her quests and most discoveries reset, I'll probably run through those again for the added xp and to get those dark icons off the map.

if you are going to focus on crit build, ie orders wrah and another crit set, get your butt over to galen and start collecting overland gear until you get a full set of gourmand. or since it's overland and you're over cp 160, you could also buy it from a guild store.

    Back-Alley Gourmand
    LEVEL 50 - CP 160
    ESO-Hub.com
    Type Overland
    ArmorSet bonus
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(4 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(5 items) While you have a food buff active, your Critical Damage and Critical Healing is increased by 13%.

    Order's Wrath
    LEVEL 50 - CP 160
    ESO-Hub.com
    Type Craftable
    ArmorSet bonus
(2 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 657 Critical Chance
(5 items) Adds 943 Critical Chance, Increases your Critical Damage and Critical Healing by 8%.

now most builds show using precise daggers and percise staves but i would like you to consider increasing your crit damage with some axes. but you know, to each their own.

Also if you quit eso in the future consider a different option to deleting everything.

At this point I'm just trying to get my sorc dressed, she would be literally naked without the outfit I had her in. So, I'm not so much focused on a crit set as getting her ready to battle monsters without punching them. Tried it in coldharbour at first but it was taking too long, found a dropped CP160 staff and put a point in a pet.

Been gone so long I wasn't even aware that magsorcs with daggers was a thing. I did see a build like that by Xynode or Lucky Ghost but I I guess you don't recover magic by heavy attacks with those builds.

I have seen the gourmand set mentioned here and there but I'll need to start with what I can craft. Luckily I have mats on a master crafter with ESO+ and a guild that has the grandmaster crafting tables. For overland, I guess just about anything would have worked but I thank the community for the help in getting a decent set started.

If I quit again, I'll keep my toons, kind of hate to bother CS, not the first time I've asked for a recover. I've cleaned out everything with other games but in those cases I'm very sure I'll never go back, or at least starting over isn't a big deal or can at least be interesting. Starting from scratch in ESO is a bit painful since horse training, research and getting CP can take so long.

a lot of the "meta" builds use daggers, are mainly setup as trial or dungeon setups because you dont need much sustain if your group is setup right

for a solo build, running daggers might be a little more tricky unless you have your sustain worked out

i also find that the dmg difference between the different weapons to be fairly minimal, unless your really going to get sweaty with meta stuff, you can more or less use whatever weapon you want for a dps (destro, bow, dual, or 2h)

YetAnotherLinuxUser mentioned crit builds, those seemed to be meta back when I last played 18 months ago. I've seen a lot of build recommend the Lover mundus stone. Wouldn't the Thief or Shadow be better or does penetration aid crits better?

I usually see Thief mundus recommended for general PVE and I would think your penetration would be fine for overland with light armor and destro staff. AFAIK, penetration is useful for challenging solo PVE content and I think for PVP.

penetration only allows you to ignore armor

generally speaking for PVE, overland enemies and archive enemies are around 9100 armor, dungeons/trials/arenas are all 18200 armor

between -armor debuffs, and penetration you dont really want to go over that value, as anything excess is wasted effectively

major and minor breach combined give an effective penetration of around 8922 by themselves, and if you are in a group with a tank running additional debuff sets (crimson oath) which applies an additional unique penetration debuff, so if your looking at group content you dont really need a lot of penetration

usually the +crit chance is a good choice for mundus stone, unless you feel your lacking in other areas of your build such as sustain, or you want more armor for solo play, or more penetration for pvp

I have a no pet magsorc and run Oakensoulx1, Slimecrawx1, Mother's Sorrowx5 (Overland drop, Deeshan), Sergeant's Mailx5 (Dungeon drop, WR1). If you want crafted sets you might consider Order's Wrath and Julianos.

This is mostly a heavy attack build. Since HA can be interrupted/thwarted, I really like running a tank companion. Therefore I want a heal that can cover me and the companion - Vigor works well for that. Since I'm mostly solo PvE, I also want my own breach - I use EleDrain for that but Caltrops could work. Bound Aegis, Inner Light and Unstable Wall of Storms rounds things out.

Yeah. Mother's Sorrow and Order's Wrath are your best starting points.

But try to get to this (ignore CP, if you want):
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoBuildData?id=591389

I'd work towards a better set to pair with Order's Wrath. You can worry about pushing spell damage and using Trial sets later. Much later.

The key to any build are your abilities. On a MagSorc you'll always have two problems. What buffs can you get from which skills and how high is your crit damage to capitalise on that juicy crit chance. Crit chance itself is never a real problem.
You have to find solutions to these questions yourself, because they need to work for you. What works for me might irk you.

If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.
