Quest locked Surveys in Coldharbour

I think the crafting surveys in northern Coldharbour should be moved to areas that are accessible to all players regardless of where they might be in the storyline. It's just a QOL thing for newer players.

If you know anyone who has completed it then it might be worth seeing if you can port to them in that area. The vampires will be hostile though if you haven' done the quest.

You are correct. Currently, the only way to bypass the questlock is to get a port from another player. This has no impact on me at all as I'm past all that, but honestly, there probably shouldn't be any surveys in Coldharbor at all unless the player has completed the main story line.

Same issue when trying to collect skyshards with a character that hasn't done all the zone storyline. As mentioned I just had someone port me to various wayshrines but sure was inconvenient.

Yeah but in this case the player has played the game - specifically the crafting part of it. There’s no way to block off surveys to only have them drop in places the character can reach, effectively robbing them of rewards they already earned.

I’m also in favor of moving them somewhere reachable. It’s also a QOL improvement for alts!

Just put any such surveys in the bank and use them later when you have access to Coldharbour.

Well the same goes for surveys in DLC areas a player hasn't bought.
I get surveys and leads all the time on my other accounts I can't do because no ESO plus or I haven't bought the chapter.
Just because someone crafts and does writs doesn't pass for doing the quests or buying the DLC to unlock them.
Luckily ZOS hasn't closed the loop hole of porting to cold harbour.

It's only the woodworking surveys that are blocked I believe, everything else is south of the quest locked borders.

The same arguments apply to the many quest-locked crafting locations, such as Earthforge or Eyevea. Sometimes it’s just one quest blocking you, sometimes a whole quest line. You can’t always travel to another player to get there, either.

Better to do the crafting surveys on alts who has all the wayshrines, Or have two, one for base zones and other for dlc.
Caracters who do all the quests and areas get loads of skillpoints who make them smart as crafters.
    You can always use alts.

Now Coldharbor has an very easy gold lead: void crystals, you get it by harvesting plants, so harvest 3-6 in Hollow city, get the lead, dig it up for the sweet xp. This has to be done character based so I just ask friend or guildies if some give me taxi to northern Coldharbor.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The last time I tried porting an alt to that area of Coldharbour, they landed south of the "border" and couldn't actually port to the wayshrine that the destination character was at. So that must be something that was changed relatively recently. Ironically the "taxi" character was one who had gotten a port herself years ago when it still worked.

I port lowbies there all the time using Beam Me Up. It worked just fine only yesterday - ported to a BMU member, landed at the Orchard wayshrine. This is on my 3rd account, where I have not done (and will not do) the whole Prophet questline and the Coldharbour quests.

I seem to remember someone posting something convoluted related to that. I think if the person you're grouped with has the appropriate quest progression, you can get there, but if they don't it diverts you south like you described. You might be able to port to someone in one of the delves in the north and walk out also, but I haven't tried that.

Hmm, interesting. This is on EU where I haven't done the main questline at all, and no friends or guildies to port to. :D Might try the delve thing to see if that works.

Of course, it's quite possible that the BMU member I ported to (don't remember the ID now) HAD done the questline; if that's a criterion for taxi, then that would likely make sense.

Really, the only times I can remember having any issues porting to the north are the couple of times I've got the "not in same group" message which I assumes means that the member I attempt to port to IS in a group already.

Yes, I've ended up with loads of void crystals. I'm thinking of arranging them into some kind of pattern in one of my houses.

You used to be able to port to someone in one of the delves in northern Cold Harbor if you didn't have it unlocked. Haven't tried it in a while so nit sure it still works.

Yes, this has never failed, ime. But it takes longer due to the extra loading screen, so a wayshrine might be worth trying first.

When we'd last tried it, porting to the wayshine didn't work. It always took us to the nearest wayshrine in the lower part of Cold Harbor. That's the very reason we even tried the delves.

The easiest solution for this problem is unlocking the wayshrine just south of the vampires for everyone imo.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Delves always work, its a longer time when wayshrines stopped working. Sometimes for wayshrines work better when you use BMU and sometimes working f.e. guild roster. But Delves never fail. Aaand it save nerves from dissappointment form failed port to wayshrine :D

Back in the day, when you ported to dungeons, you would pop out at the door where the dungeon is located when you exited. I did this with Coldharbour specifically (there's only one way I complete zones - I do all of the side quests/delves/etc. before I do the zone & main quests, and that was the only way to get access to that side of Coldharbour).

Funny thing is that the NPCs were all mixed up and acted as though I had completed that part of the zone quest, but there were no quest progression markers. It was kinda broken.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's crafting related.

    Thank you for your understanding
