What's with the anti-aliasing (or rather the lack of it)?

I've had this issue since the last beta. Anti-aliasing suddenly decided not to work properly for me anymore.

Here's how it looks. As you can see, the jaggies are really bad. Also, the land in the distance is nauseatingly shimmering.

To be clear, turning anti-aliasing on and off changes the look of the game very slightly, but it's rather like switching between two different types of aliased edges. I kinda wish I could have them smooth.

Forcing anti-aliasing with the drivers control panel didn't help too. I'm using GeForce 650Ti Boost, so the GPU itself can't be the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? Any tips on how to reduce the aliasing in the game? Maybe some hidden settings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ESO has some gorgeous lighting and models but it's really hard for me to enjoy them with all these rendering artifacts getting in the way.

No help here? I'm also looking for a good AA solution-- i can't stand the jaggies. I keep reading about downsampling but have no idea how to do that.

Yeah, that's what I also wanted to do, but it seems I'm out of luck playing the game in the window if I don't want to downsample my whole desktop.

Downsampling is the only solution at the moment (other is buying a higher resolution monitor). Wait for true full screen mode and higher quality anti-aliasing support.

I have the same issue. No matter how I force AA with nVidia inspector, I can't eliminate the jagged edges and shimmering appearance. It makes it really hard to look at the game and might drive me to stop playing (and paying)

    Hopefully this is fixed soon.

I have a Geforce GTX 580, a little older than current gens but it still runs the game fine, aside from the AA issue.

ESO doesn't seem to be responding to my override settings in the control panel for my Radeon either. Better anti-aliasing support would be most welcome B)

Welp I tried downsampling and it did work. Have to also change desktop res to whatever you use in the game.

So the current full screen mode is not a true full screen mode? That would explain why I cant force better AA in the drivers I guess

You need a very powerful PC to downsample.

If you want to run 4xAA by downsampling, your performance would degrade to 25%. 2xAA = 50% and so on.

But, the results are pretty, very pretty. So are you capable of downsampling, I suggest you give it a try:

A fairly good guide to downsample can be found here:

I don't know about you guys but with 32xCSAA and 8xSupersampling on in nvidia control panel i get a huge improvement in aliasing. I still have the in game AA ticked, if that makes a difference I'm not sure.

also, I am running in 1080p on a 144hz monitor. full screen.

Furthermore - I have VSYNC off across the board, all settings in the game jacked up to maximum. I still get some "shimmering" but from what there is I can tell has been reduced down to a much smaller pixel size. The trees look and general objects look 100x better. The hardest for the game and forced settings to AA is very thin objects like bows and staffs when they only occupy a few pixels to begin with.

I don't see any jaggies in my game. o_O
