Launcher?

Thinking of coming back to subscribe and play for a while. I can't remember how I accessed ESO before - I don't think it was on Steam the last time I played. What are the options for playing now, is it just Steam?

Steam,Epic(recent way),and launcher on site.you can login to your account on the main site and it should say.

Is there a preferred way to access it? Browsing these forums I see they just finished a new patcher, and it seems you can exit the launcher after the game loads if you ware using the ESO launcher. So is that best? I seem to recall that you can run mods as well - I think I used to use an inventory management mod - are those better used with the ESO launcher as opposed to Steam?
