Is that a good way to do this? Almost 50 at my Arcanist- can I just go back to do Fungal Grotto level one or similar as a healer? Many thanks

Yes, you can do fungal grotto 1 at any time. I suggest working your way through the dungeons from easiest to hardest, that’s what I did.

Yes and no. I felt the best way to learn tank/healer roles was to DD on veteran until you know the mechanics of the dungeons. You should do that for all content that you plan on later tanking/healing, especially vet DLC content. There are mechanics on vet that simply do not appear on normal.

But to answer you question directly, base dungeons are too easy on normal to tank or heal. Vet base dungeons or DLC dungeons on normal can be productive for what you are trying to do.

Last, and this is only if you are just at Level 50 overall, Level 50 is too low to tank veteran content. CP 800 is probably the lowest threshold for tanks to do all veteran content (DLC included) comfortably and survive without a healer spamming heals on you to keep you alive. Maybe CP 200-400 for veteran base dungeon with a selfish tank set, depending on the dungeon, i.e. Darkshade 1 versus the last boss on Tempest Island on HM . Yes, there is probably someone, somewhere who tanked vet Graven Deep at Level 10, but you're not going to have the resistances and resources most tanks need for vet content until you get to the proper CP level. Even the last boss in FG1 on veteran can pummel you down with those Storm Flurry/antennae-looking strikes if you don't have enough resistances or health..

EDIT: Maybe you already know this, but the best way to level up your tank/healer skills is on a DD, not on a tank or healer. It would take forever the latter way.

You can always have an ability slot on your frontbar reserved for tanking/healing abilities.
Your SnB and Resto weapon abilities get levelled, even if you do not have a Resto or SnB equipped at the moment. Your proficiency with this weapon levels, too. I think...
Okay, I am not sure if the weapon levels too. It's been a really long time since I did anything like this levelling trick.

Normally, I take a healer setup with SPC and que as Healer in normal random dungeons. I tend to ignore complaints, because if DPS is low, its not my fault. 😅 Four "purple" runs are usually enough to level the staff skill line far enou gh to go for serious content.

With tanking it is kind of similar. Only that I really need to have thorough plan before I level anything. Tanking is much more complex than healing, imo.

If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

And to expand on what @Zodiarkslayer said, when I level up an existing character as a tank (i.e. a PVE DD with an alternate tank build in the armory), I will run random daily normals with my 5 core DPS skills on the front bar, and a S&B on the back bar with the tanking skills I want to level on my DD. I never use the S&B skills during the dungeon run, but right before the last boss dies, I swap to the back bar to get the massive XP dump from the random daily normal. Also helps to slap on an XP scroll.

You can adapt the same for almost all content. Like run pledges on your full DD build, then swap to your tank build using the armory when turning in the Undaunted pledge. Just know that you can not swap using the armory in trials.

For healers, you also want to level Assult to 4 to get War Horn. It's a great buff.

True. All content is scaled to CP160 so it does not matter when we do it.

One suggestion I have is to start healing content with known people. Guild members are great for this as they tend to have more patience with someone who is learning.

It is also easier to heal content one already knows since healing is not about spamming heals but knowing when the heals will really be needed and when to refresh buffs and debuffs.
