Bonus Tip: Kill As You Go (KAYG)
When you're questing, make an effort to kill enemies you come across. Don't avoid them. Don't take the lazy path. Remember that any enemies you skip now, you may have to grind later. This is especially true at the game's launch, when there are a lot of players around killing the enemies that were, by the game's design, supposed to be killed by you. Not Lord Buffinstuff. Not Sir Castsalot. Not that guy with the bow you'd like. YOU.

Well, there are problems with your statement, i have seen 2 mobs, sometimes (very rare) 3 mobs right next to each other and all 3 are aggro'd when one of them is attacked, which can ultimately lead to your death, unless you can kill them in 1-2 seconds, which is impossible unless you are severely over-leveled.

I never find myself under-leveled or anything like that, i explore as much as i can, but i do find it difficult to win fights, in Oblivion and Skyrim i loved archery, but in this game, it is rather subpar, compared to the melee and caster skills, so i am hopeful they buff archery to some degree.

For those who suffer from MDMMOPS, I think the best treatment for it is to go attain level 30 or 40 in EQ 1999 style. Once this has been done, grinding will be a much easier experience in ESO!

For those of us who walked the LONG road to get through the 50's in the original EQ, running out of things to do in ESO should not be a problem.

As a new player to MMORPG - this helped a lot. As common sense as some of this may be to old-hands it's not always so to us newbs. (Except the fire - sorta assumed standing in fire wasn't going to end well.)

Thanks for the concise, funny, and relevant tips.

What? My DK tank regularly takes out 3 enemies his own level or one higher all by his lonesome. Same with my Templar and NB during beta. The more you practice fighting crowds, the better you'll get at it.

Haha I agree with everything but the "just grind it" bit. I would literally rather shoot myself in the foot.
  • sebastiankarner
Ive had experience with being underleveled, but when that happens, i just travel to a bandit camp or a dungeon where i know that enemies will spawn quick.

Once there you just go at it and kill
Maybe you need to kill 100 mobs, But it will get you leveled!

I have all the exploration and quest achievements and I'm still 2 levels behind the quests at level 27 and have been for most of the game. I even do the pvp kill 20 players quest line each day. This has to be something more then what people realize

Very well written. I have to say I started the game without knowing how to level and came to frustrating levels of not knowing what I am doing wrong. I came to a point being in Stormhaven's Northpoint at lvl 27 (last spot of third zone) and could not go on.. Then i started with a new char all over and start exploring and grinding and taking my time. I have to say I am already 27 and just cleared the map of this zone. Just take your time you don't have to race to 50..

    1-Do started island
    2-Craft Gear of your level
    3-Kill mobs while questing
    4-Use stun / disorient / immobilize skills

I always like 2 levels above the quest level

I can kill up to 4 enemies of same level

Same with sorcerer, use the clanfear as tank, it will usually tank one or two enemies, leaving you to fight one, if you face two try cc, it also tend to let the other focus on your clanfear again.

Other players are usually a nice thing, if you face hard content go then its plenty of other players around, for bugged quests go then few other is playing like early in the morning.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I'd recommend using 3-mob groups as training for learning how to be effective with your given class. 2 mobs should always be straightforward solo: you use an ability that keeps one of them out of the action, burn the other one down with your big damage abilities, and then take out the second. Three is more tricky, and you will have to dodge red danger zones, block, and so on to succeed. You'll run a decent chance of having your character die, but you'll also be building up a set of tricks that will prove to be enormously useful later. Basically, you want some form of crowd control on your bar; this can be something that roots them (e.g. dragonknights, nightblades); a pet (sorcerors); or abilities that stun. Ideally, some ability that gives some healing or the ability to get out of trouble (invisibility for nightblades, for instance). Use potions aggressively (and not just health ones, and not just when health is very low.) Don't just load up the bar with damage abilities. There are also some abilities that help a ton in specific circumstances - the Fighters Guild Silver Bolts is a huge help vs. Daedra and undead, for instance.

Huh, I already do all of that, I am still 2 levels below where I should be. I completed everything on the two islands in Daggerfall, completed Glenumbra and Stormhaven. I should be level 24, but I am only level 22.

@Xelphos, find some grindable mobs and crank away. Get a buddy, grind mobs at or above your level.

Look at your achievements journal, it will tell you how many quests there are in an area. You've probably missed quests without realizing it.

The tip about killing as you go is especially important. Many MMO's you could just skip mobs and have it not effect your leveling at all. In this game is actually detrimental to not only your leveling but also to acquiring possible upgrades in gear and your crafting professions for decon gear. KILL ALL THE THINGS.
Remember, you're unique... just like everyone else.

You're suppose to be happy going with rule #3. Just go to an area and kill mobs for 2-3 hours. That's 100% fun and exciting! In fact, I think they should just do away with quests. If people find mindless grinding acceptable, then I should be able log in and they should just have 100,000 mobs in front of me and I just stand there all day and kill them.
The suggestion to kill everything you come across on your way from point A to point B, seems like a really sad answer to me. If the game can't keep me up to level with enough quests, that's a problem with the game layout. Mindlessly grinding mobs to make sure I stay at the ideal level seems like a design flaw to me.

I dont understand how ppl run out of quest. Im usually praying for less quest as i end up outleveling them in every zone and arriving to the next map with 2-3 more levels for it
  • ghost2015b14_ESO
I was able to quest all the way to level 48, had to grind from 48-50 only because i couldn't do one public dungeon alone and some quests were bugged. I also didn't do Dungeons in each bracket.
I know someone who states they ran out of quests and were only 38 when finishing The Rift, how this is, I have no clue. But after asking about quests, they missed a bunch in Shadowfen. And few in other zones.
So explore, you have to explore for those quests to make sure you stay within reasonable level for the content your doing."
Look at the achievements page, so you can at least see how many quests are in the zone vs how many you've done
