FIX THE MAIL SYSTEM!

Is this thing crazy buggy for anyone else? I log in, it says I have mail. I go in and receive all mail, delete it, and close menu. It says I have 0, but then a minute later it dings again saying i have mail, but when I go into it it says “No new mail.”
Then when I buy stuff off guild traders, it also says no new mail, but dings as if I do. What in the NINE is going on

Yep, it's everyone, not just you. Only way to "fix" it is to log to different toon or totally relog on the account.

This has been going on for at least a year now with no fix or, as far as I know, even any acknowledgement by ZOS.

I have it too, but for me it's only since about 2 weeks. I didn't had that before.

As for a fix, in my case, I do nothing: it disappears on its own after I have map travelled a few times.

First time I ever noticed it was right after they did away with the twice-daily hireling mails triggered by logging in at least 12 hours since the previous hireling mails were received, and went to once-a-day at global server reset time. That might be pure coincidence and unrelated, but I can't help wondering if there's some kind of process or routine related to the hireling mails that got overlooked which is getting triggered somehow.

I've been playing since beta and I don't ever remember the mail system working correctly. They made some changes to it in the last year or two and it actually functions much more reliably now than it used to... previously, you had to zone/relog almost every single time you received mail if you actually wanted it to come through.

Are you moving your character when opening the mail? Because you need to completely stand still before you can actually open anything in there.

Incorrect. It has both been acknowledged as wel as fixed a while ago. But yes, it has returned.

To be fair, the mail system is still WAY better than it used to be. I appreciate the improvements in getting your mail more immediately.

In the past, you almost always HAD TO rezone to get your mail to refresh. we have come a long way.

God I don't miss the re-zoning we used to have to do yo get mail, that sucked.

Totally! I may tend to be negative and cynical but can also give props when things are improving. Mail is something that has definitely gotten much better over the years.

It has been going on for more than a year and is more like years. For me it has been one of those things that come and go with different patch levels which makes me think there is a fix that gets regressed, then fixed, then regressed, etc.

I think the current issue might be different than the previous one(s). The reason I suspect that it might be related to hireling mails is because when I get the sound then the mail icon on my chat window says I've got 5 new mails even though there are no mails in my box, and 5 is how many hireling mails I get on each character.

If you don't do anything for 30 days all the mail gets deleted.


There's a queue system.

Lets say only 32 mails can show.

Until you deal with all that mail no new mail will show. Let's say you have 100 new mails.

Only 32 will show.

If you get rid of 12,


You will see 20 mails. Then close out and go back in and you'll see 32 again. However, there is still a backlog of 58 mails in the back log waiting for you to clear your queue before it can repopulate it with the backlog of mails.

At this point I can't rule out any possible reasons for the bug to return, nor is it my job/business to do so. I don't think they ever said what the original problems were that caused the old bug. All we have to go on are our experiences and let the guys with the knowledge and access to the in-game logs figure it out. All I can do is check my guild stores and make sure I don't miss out on any mails from sold/unsold items. It didn't happen with the old bug, but I'm checking every time the bug comes up just the same. So far I haven't, so while it is annoying, it's still just that: annoying. At least for now.

However, my experiences are different from yours. I get the same bugged message on characters that don't have any hirelings and they sometimes (but not always) carry over when swapping characters. The carryover to other characters is new to me and that does require a /reloadUI or relog to get the mail from the hirelings. It doesn't make the error go away but at least I get my mail. I don't remember that happening before.
