Zergathon?

I've only participated briefly in AvA, on the Dominion dominated Dawnbreaker campaign on the side of the Pact. But so far it seems to be fairly zergy and very similar to Guild Wars 2's WvWvW, I'd just like to know what you guys think of ESO's take on "open world" PvP..

    AD Dawnbreaker player here.

While being on the winning team is fun and all, I did prefer the moments where I was part of a group of, say, only 18 or so going up against 15 Pact guys while they had NPC backup at their Gate. Made it real easy to get that first bounty mission done, and for the most part I didn't even mind dying (I like how your armor doesn't degrade upon death if you're doing PVP stuff)

Its the same as DAoC was...I dont expect the zergs to stop, but we should see start seeing the pre-made death squads forming soon... :D

This is not ESO's take on open world PvP, it's their take on RvR PvP. They are completely different. ESO has no open world PvP.

It's the biggest zone on the world map, once you hit level 10 it's open to everyone. I inserted the bunny ears to clarify that I realise ESO's not wholly open world(PvP), but the imperial province is part of the world, complete with all the standard features of all the other provinces. Perhaps I should have been more specific to avoid confusion, "ESO's partial open world"?

No you just need to realize what open world PvP is and realize that ESO does not have it.

Um.. I know what open world PvP is, all I was doing was alluding to the fact that Cyrodiil is a blend of PvP and PvE. It was just a throwaway comment at the end, the PvP has an open world feel (quests, resources, exploration) is all I'm saying. I was just trying to have discussion about the similarities with GW2's WvWvW and also to see if people thought it might be a bit zergy.

He doesn't NEED to realize that, it's not essential to any aspect of his life that he does realize the difference.
See what I did there, instead of actually addressing your post as a whole, I picked out a word you misused and analyzed it to death... Rather pointlessly.

To the topic at hand: It can be a bit zergy even on campaigns that are balanced, but it isn't the only experience you can find. There's plenty of opportunities to find smaller scale PVP, balance keep attack/defense, etc. It has as much to do with the people you run with as much as the state of the campaign.

Right now it seems like the only somewhat balanced campaigns are Auriel's Bow and Wabbajack.

Every other campaign is dominated by one faction (numerically) who just zergs everything.

I don't think that will last though. Hopefully as more people level the campaigns will start to fill up and the fighting will become both more balanced and more tactical.

RvR style PvP is meant to be large armies. It's kind of the point. That being said, you will see skill groups of 4-24 people forming up more and more as the game progresses, because 10 people can actually kill 20-30 in this game with proper timing, strategy, and skill where as in GW2 numbers trumped everything due to poor design decisions.

This is a somewhat a misleading version of history.
