join a guild for a small private auction house/store, it's your only option. and you can join up to 5 guilds at once so get to it.

A guild with 50 members has its own guild store usable by members. They can also set up a stall to sell to other players inside a cyrodiil keep if that guild has claimed one.

hmm doesn't this promote just joining all the largest guilds as opposed to fostering small, tightly-nit ones? thx for the info

You can join up to 5 guilds. Personally i am joining one small family guild, and one large trading guild for trading purposes.

(just to make it clear: when you join a guild, you join with your userID, not with a character. After joining, all of your characters are automatically members of the same guild/s)

    Where are these keeps located?
How does a guild go about claiming a keep?

    No.

The substitute for a worldwide AH is to join one of the many existing trade guilds. You can join up to five guilds, so it shouldn't be a problem leaving at least one set aside for marketplace purposes.

Indeed, this is a most interesting experiment in player-commerce. A guild of merchants designed to act as a marketplace can become quite large, and the way it is organized allows its leadership to "police" trade practices. This could be good or bad, as it could encourage both price fixing, punish supposed "undercutting," and allow a guild to offer only the best items by only the best crafters.

This is assuming of course that there end up being more than one or two giant completely unregulated crafting guilds which are, essentially, a public auction house.

The keeps are located in Cyrodil (the center-most zone on the map of Tamriel, which is the gigantic open-pvp zone. As for how to claim them and what they are like, the simple answer is "through pvp" but this gives some in-depth data: elderscrollsonline.com/en-uk/news/post/2013/12/20/creating-eso-cyrodiils-keeps
The integration of PvP into the question suggests that these trading guilds, if they do not become uber-large and wish to make their goods available to the public, will also need competent PvP-ers in their midst. Exciting!
