Better BGs: concept

battlegrounds gets a new mode and one new map:

map is fairly sizable with plenty of space between each teams base filled up with random little poi's forestation and main roads connecting the bases through their fastest routes or lanes..

Teams will be larger and consist of 8 players on each team...

the game mode is Capture the Relic

players will have to strategize to be the first to capture another teams relic..

CHanges to make this even better for everyone:
battlegrounds is most likely going to be any pvpers first experience so i do think that they are entitled to some minor leniency as far as dealing with veteran players goes...
All gear stats withing a Battleground will automatically be boosted to maximum level so as to eliminate the the need for below level 50 playlist a vet level playlist.. this is better because CP isnt allowed in BGs anyway.. also newer players dont typically have access to meta playstyle or gold gear so this will hopefully offset the trauma of their beautifully useless build having zero effect on the battlefield..

the point is to make accessible and engaging pvp for players new and casual to pvp... and if its really good it might even become much more popular..

You would still need to split people because lower level people generally have less skills available to them as well as generally having less gear sets available to them. In many cases, the difference between the color of armor in effectiveness isn't actually all that large.

Capture the Relic's coordination/planning might be a liability rather than an asset with getting people to enjoy playing it. With existing Battleground players it doesn't poll that well https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/633690/what-is-your-favorite-battleground-mode Plans can easily fail if the opposition doesn't follow one or is significantly better at some aspect.

Capture the Relic also can run into issues with certain player builds being incredibly annoying to counter. In the BG version during the weekends specifically for it you run into people that are so tanky you can't dent them at all on a normal build. In the Cyrodiil version the scroll carrier will frequently have enough speed buffs that they are hard to catch up with.

If the maps in question are larger, you might also hit issues where newer players can't keep up because their mount is slower. (Granted, you could band-aid that by just upping everyone's mount to max speed and stamina for the BG)

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it deals with an idea for Battlegrounds.

    Thank you for your understanding

For any objective based mode I would suggest that 2 teams are always going to be better than 3.

With 2 teams you would need to actually use strategy and fight the other team to win.
The only strategy in current CtR is to wait until the other teams are fighting eachother in actual PvP and then sneak behind them and steal the relic.

Similarly in all other objective modes, the only thing that is actually rewarded is avoiding PvP and playing the most annoying tank builds possible.

I completely disaggree that the difference between level one green gear and level 160 gold gear is negligable.... adn there are plenty of sets in the beginning of the game that one can choose to farm if they so choose...

using the poor balance of some builds is a poor excuse to shut down an otherwise fine objective game mode... its could be as simple as banning perm cc immunity items from the playlist or better balancing overpowered builds.. its a core combat issue not a battlegrounds issue and i dont think teh idea should be treated as if its quality relies on there being overpowered builds in the game.. just balance the game..

hard to catch characters are realistic... Just guard your scroll better or lose it.. have a coordinated dps speedster if you want to roam the map trying to get picks on lone carriers... it goes without sayign that newer players will always have disadvantage to vet players but the point is to close the gap between them by any amount..

if the game mode is really unpopular then i suppose there could be a free-for-all deathmatch mode using the same maps on weekends.. because regular team deathmatch on a map that big would be weird without an objective in my opinion it would just be better to set a time limit in which you explore and fight whomever you find (kind of like battle royale) and get the most kills before time is up....

Increased Team size will change barely anything. It is just going to turn into 8v8 and the 3rd team going for relics.
To most people it simply is not fun to just stand in front of your relic, sometimes waiting for several minutes without seeing any enemies while the rest of your team is doing actual PvP.

This might not be true for everyone, but most people who queue for BGs will want to actually fight other players and basically all objective based modes are designed to avoid fighting at any cost.

In just 8v8 however you wouldn't be able to just avoid fighting, cause you would have to actually kill enemies to get to their relic instead of waiting until they're too bored to stay at their relic.
