How do guild stores work?

How exactly are items delivered when you buy them from the guild store listing? Are they delivered automatically? Are they just supposed to appear in your inventory?

I just bought something, and it disappeared from the listing. But I don't have it. Is there a delay or something?

Just came through half an hour later. I wonder if there's a 30 minute delay on getting your items, or if it's just because the devs are working on the mail right now.

It should go through instantly, but sometimes you need to re-log, or switch zones before you get the notification.

Apparently in-game mail has been temporarily disabled by the devs a few hours ago. There is a seperate message thread/notice on that.
