The scroll barrier is the giant beam you see around the scroll when the scroll gate is closed.
If you are still within the scroll temple or anywhere behind the gate when it closes - When the scroll owning faction gains control of the keep/keeps nearby to close it, then you can remain there but getting too close to the scroll will hit you with the barrier for 1m. This is to prevent anyone just camping behind a gate until a big fight is done so they can sneak away with it.
You still need your corresponding scroll to pick up any scroll which is normal. So if you have your offensive scroll, you can pick up other offensive scrolls, and if you have your defensive scroll, you can pick up other defensive scrolls. You don’t just need both to pick up any.
Examples :
- If you only hold your own offensive at your temple but your defensive is captured elsewhere, or still being ran back, and you go to a temple with an open gate, and try to collect a defensive, then you’ll just get a message saying you need your scroll. (The game doesn’t explain about defensive vs offensive but that’s how it works)
- If you hold both your scrolls and go storming an enemy scroll temple, and it’s a big long fight, and in the meantime they capture their mid home keep, or the closest keep to the gate, causing the gate to close.. Then the barrier will activate. Then if you get anywhere near the middle you’ll be one shot. There was actually a funny video of a guy on YT pulling people in with chains when this happened lol.it doesn’t happen very often as usually once a gate opens the scroll is taken before keeps are taken back.
Hope that helps! TLDR is don’t try to steal a scroll when the gate is closed and you see that giant beam
