Dear support

If I terminate (not just delete it from my pc, but terminate my account) will I then be able to access my current ESO account by buying it through your website and download/play it that way?
Or do I lose my ESO account/characters the moment I terminate my steam account?

If purchased through the ESO store, you can access on any platform, but it if it was purchased on steam, you can only access through steam.

you'll be unable to buy any future chapter if you do that, you can't apply regular keys to a steam version of ESO. terminating your steam account is a very bad idea if it's the account you have ESO on as i'm pretty sure you'll revoke the access of all game licenses that account had access to as well.

If you purchased the game through steam, you would have to launch it through steam in order to play it. Terminating your account would cause you to have to repurchase it outside of steam and you would have to start over.

I know people who started on Steam but have subsequently bought the game through ZOS store and started launching and playing that way instead of through Steam. They did not have to start over. They picked up with their existing characters and continued playing as normal, just launch the game different. However, I don't know what would happen if you delete your Steam account completely.

I forgot exactly how this works, but I'm one of those people. I own it both on Steam and ESO website, however I can only apply Steam expansion codes to my account as far as I know, but I can log into my account off-steam. However, I think terminating the account would invalidate all the licenses purchased with said account(?) thus making you lose the game & all expansions you bought.

I moved from Steam to ESO Site, but I did so before I'd purchased any additional things to my account. I did not have to re-start my toons, they were all the same level.

Early on, a guildie told me that when the game was on sale for cheap, I could re-purchase and basically move over. So I did that pretty early on, since I'm not a fan of Steam.

However, since I did this early on in my ESO time I do NOT know if DLCs or xpacs you've purchased while you were on Steam.
$6-8 is a pretty low investment though if someone wants to check when there is a sale on.

A player doesn’t have to start over to move from Steam to the ESO launcher, but they do have to buy a new game license. There are many people who’ve moved away from steam by buying another copy of the game and continuing to use their same login and account.

I personally would wait for the next $5 sale though.
