New Player Friend Has No Styles Available at Outfitting Station

Details: Got a friend into the game, and he's a heavy crafter and along with just getting to 160, he has been working to level all crafting lines.

Personally, I have been playing for some 6 years and got to Grand Master Crafter in late 2021. So it's been a long time since I was new to both crafting and the Outfitting system.

Anyway, last week I gave my friend a bunch of motif sets, and they do show up in Craft Store add-on, but not in Achievements. Plus he has been deconning a lot of overland set gear. But when he goes to Outfitting station, no armor or weapon styles are available to him. The motif sets I gave him were about 11 of the green and blue "race" motif books, + a couple of other sets I had all the pieces for. He can dye gear, btw. And he sees the "stickered" set gear in the sticker book.

Does he have to do something to unlock this on the crafting side, or what? Has something changed and does the Outfitting station now require some unlock thing as well? Thanks in advance for any info.

collecting gear sets will not unlock the outfit styles

you have to have at least 1 character on your account learn the motif style book/pages which are completely separate item drops from the gear items

so for example, you run the black drake villa dungeon, you add items to your collection which are part of the "waking flame" style, this does not unlock the style

you have to actually obtain (either get as a drop from the dungeon, or get from another player through trading) the motif consumable item that lets you learn a part of the style (if it was a single chapter) or all of the styles (if you were lucky enough to get the full book)

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

Make sure that he's looking at the outfit station right. Top left, use the dropdown and select outfit 1, then on the right make sure that there's no filters on.
Edit: Oh, yeah. I read giving the books as giving the actual books. Like Necrotech said, the sets don't unlock the style. The motifs/style pages do.

You say you gave your friend around 11 of the green and blue race motif books....

There are no green motif books, there are however nine blue motifs one for each race plus a single gold book for Imperial, once those are read/used they should show up at the Outfit Station.

I'm not 100% sure what you gave your friend but it's possible they weren't motifs, for sure the green items were not.

    Hi Folks,

Appreciate your responses. I've been away from the game for several months, hence the mistakes in my post.

And for further clarification - I have indeed given my friend several blue racial motif books, and a bunch of random, cheap motif set pages (armor + weapons). And, he is using the outfitting station correctly (showed me what he was doing in a stream).

Also, me bad about the gear set pieces, not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that. Duh!

The only thing I can think of is that he accidentally "learned" all the motif books and motif separate pages I gave him on his other toon a few months ago (we were playing another game for a few months). I will be checking with him today about this. Won't be a huge deal, nothing I gave him was expensive.

Outfit station is account wide and not per character, so that shouldn't be the case. Maybe have him search for a motif you know he should have in the search bar to make sure it's not hidden somehow, and make sure he did in fact "eat" (use) them.

Style pages are account wide, but I’m fairly certain that motifs are character specific.

Arg, at this point, I do not know what to think. The friend was not on last night and today neither of us can log in, so further troubleshooting will have to wait, probably until Saturday.

motif knowledge is character specific, but it unlocks the styles in the outfit station account wide

so in order to craft in that style, you have to be on the toon that learned it, but any toon can use the style from the outfit station

Adding onto this that he should at the very least have the motifs associated with his own race as they are unlocked by default.

@Soarora So the issue was in fact he had not yet selected an Outfit. We finally got on together last night and his styles are indeed available. Thanks for this tip, it solved the issue!

Everyone else, thanks for your responses. I did learn a few things from your replies!
