I'm looking for a list of times and days when feral vampires and werewolves come out for the NA-PC server. Does such data exist?

You mean the ones you can get bites from in the wild? I don't know what time they "come out", but I've seen ones in Bangkorai in the middle of the night (game time).

Yes. I know I can easily ask Guild or Zone for a bite.. but I actually prefer the natural and the RP way of getting a bite in the open wild.

Gotcha. If I were going to play either (I'm not) I'd be inclined to do it that way too. Now, there IS an addon (Destinations - I think author is Sharlikran) that allows you to filter for those mobs - but it just shows where to look for them, it doesn't actually "pop" when they're up. I can't remember ever seeing any discussion of what time they show up.

I actually just got done getting feral bites for both vamp and WW. Use this website https://esoclock.uesp.net/ to keep track of ingame time and moon phases. Vampires spawn at the spawn locations in Reaper's March, The Rift, and Bangkorai when it is a new moon. Werewolves spawn in the same place when there is a full moon. For specific maps, you could likely find a map or guide online or in an addon.

From what I've noticed, it seems that the mobs spawn either at 11 pm ingame time, or at midnight. I've had better luck after midnight, but at least one of the vamp encounters I had was at 11:30, so it might be a range.

The phase of the moons doesn't seem to matter anymore, but I think it does need to be night. Check the fifth zones of each alliance (Bangkorai, Reaper's March, and The Rift) at night in the areas where they're known to spawn.

Yes, but someone in another thread said that this led to players exploiting the predictable spawning times, so ZOS changed it so it's no longer tied to the moons' phases. I can verify that I've seen werewolves spawn in The Rift on nights when the moons were not even close to being full, although when I got scratched in Bangkorai the moons were indeed full, or very near to full.

Full moon for werewolves and New moon for vampires, around 10pm in-game time (that's also the time when the sun completely sets, and the sky is completely dark, stars in full-shine [if they aren't obscured by cloud-cover, of course], in-game.)

I use the "Clock, Tamriel Standard Time," mentioned above, to track the time and the moon phases.

And just for information, but also relevant to the discussion, the sun starts to lighten the sky around 2:30am, with the sun peeking above the horizon by 3am.
The feral wolves and vamps vanish at some point after the sky starts to lighten.
(it has been a while since I tried to pin-point it more precisely than that.)

When I got scratched on PC EU in Reapers March (not in Bangkorai, I mispoke), somewhere west of Dune, it was indeed full moons.

But when I got scratched on PC NA in The Rift, somewhere north of Autumn's-Gate, it was roughly quarter moons.

They will usually take turns spawning. Vamps and WW generally use the same spawn points, but never appear on the same night. If you are on PC, there's a few addons that'll list spawn locations (destinations does this) or you can look up maps online. The spawn pints have not changed, although it used to be that if the spawns were killed, they wouldn't respawn in that location the next time (although that was many years ago, not sure if it still does that)

I also saw infectious werewolves on nights when the moons weren't full (they were both half-full). I can't remember with the vampires, I only saw them once because that was the one I was looking for so once I found them I stopped checking.

It took me a couple of weeks to find infectious vampires in Reaper's March, partially because in-game days are shorter than real-life days and I couldn't be online every single in-game night to check so I kept missing the spawns. Some of it was bad luck because, as I said, I found werewolves multiple times before I found blood fiends.

Except for one character of mine, I also got all werewolf and vampire diseases the natural way. If you find them, do NOT kill them and tell the zonechat where they are. Just get infected and either run away so they reset, or let them kill you.

The best way to get infected naturally, is the dune wayshrine in Reaper's March(north east on the map). Both werewolfs and vampires spawn at three different spots around that plateau there. The best way to find them is to check like every 15-30 mins or so, and walk/mount around down from the plateau and to check the first and second ring. There's also two spawn spots if you follow the main road south from dune's wayshrine, but as they all spawn at the same time, it doesn't make much sense to travel there to try and find them. Unless you think someone may have killed them.

PS: As I always kill everything, I once accidentally killed the infectious werewolfs in the rift. (oopsie, and sorry!)
PPS: Either all werewolfs or all vampires spawn, they never spawn at the same time. They do all spawn at the same locations though.

What is the visual difference between a werewolf/vamp that can infect you, vs a regular one?

I just assumed that there was a % chance to get infected if you were fighting one, wherever that may be. I actually spent some time in the middle of a den of vamps seeing if that would happen. It was one of those "I'm not going to spoil this by looking online. Let's do it naturally" moments, which of course ended up failing. It did give me some perspective on understanding why a lot of people prefer getting a player bite.

When I got infected outside of Dune, the werewolves took me by surprise, and as I recall there was a message displayed that I'd just been scratched by a werewolf. When you fight regular werewolves there is never any such message, so right away it should be obvious that you've just encountered the "special" werewolves.

When it happened to me the first time, I didn't know any better and killed them. Then I posted a comment about it in zone chat and was told (too late) that I shouldn't kill them.

When I got scratched in The Rift, I knew not to kill the werewolves afterward, so I announced their presence and location in zone chat, then kept an eye on them until they despawned with the rising sun.

That's good to know. I'll pay attention to messages when I am fighting them.

But before I engage, so that I leave the special ones alone, is there a nameplate or otherwise strong visual indicator? Because if I am just Joe-Blow adventurer passing through, I tend to leave quest/objective related mobs alone, especially ones related to timers.

There isn't one as far as I am aware.
I've been scratched a couple of times in the Rift, and the wolves themselves looked the same as others, they were just located in an "odd" spot; two wolves standing in a spot where you wouldn't normally see them.

I did that same thing when I first became aware of the capacity for a player to contract lycanthropy.
I ran around like a crazy person outside of Aldcroft in Glenumbra, between the town and the Cambray Hills Dolmen, aggro-ing every wolf I came across, and just letting them beat up on me, not knowing at the time that it had to be "special" wolves at certain times.
There were several random players just standing around watching me do this.
I felt quite silly after I researched it a little more.

For vamps, the feral ones are groups of blood-fiend-looking things. At least the ones I've run into in Bangkorai were.

When their timers were predictable, some players would go out of their way to kill the spawns as a way to control the bite "market" back when they were still scarce among the player population. I think that's why it's more random now since you can't rely on the moon phases anymore. Anyway they always spawn in groups of 3 and if you visit the zones regularly you'll notice them spawning in places they weren't there before. Bangkorai has some static werewolf locations that are there all the time so they don't count, I think that's the only one.

Hmmm, I didn't know that the phases weren't a consideration anymore.
And, I've only ever looked for feral groups on a full moon or new moon because of that.

And maybe it was three wolves instead of two. (it has been a while since I've encountered them.)
Three sounds correct for the vamps, though; from what I remember.
(the wolves were just standing next to a tree, and the vamps were huddled together under a tree, dining on a carcass or corpse.)

I've only ever given free bites for wolf and vamp, and it has been a very long time since anyone tried to get me to pay for one.

If it's for RP reasons, those feral vamps don't even bite you, they just hit you. So no really a RP/vamp behavior there unfortunately.

I think the only way to tell the 'special' infectious ones apart from normal vamps and werewolves is that they're in odd places and only appear there on certain nights, whereas the normal ones are there all the time (unless they've been killed). If you wanted to do it without a guide a good way to check would be to go around the map during the day and make a note of where vamps and werewolves spawn, then avoid those places and look for ones at night you didn't see before. But it's much easier to look up a map of the spawn points.

Also getting infected is very quick and easy. Basically if they hit you they'll infect you.

I did it just because I hadn't done it before and I'd heard there were a few extra steps to the process so I wanted to see how it worked. The extra stuff is pretty minimal, basically you have to find an NPC outside the main town (annoyingly he only appears in your alliance - I got bitten in Reaper's March and had to go to The Rift to find him) who tells you that you're infected, directs you to the shrine and starts the quest off.

I suppose the idea is if you're bitten by a player they will fill the same role. Although once I was bitten by a player werewolf because I happened to be standing by the shrine (I was wondering what it was for, since there were no quests or anything around) and they just ran off again straight after biting me.

One place I know they can spawn is on a ledge/overhang just north of Autumn's-Gate (player housing).

If you look on the map, you can see that there's a river that runs NE-SW just to the north. On the opposite shore of the river is a spot where there's an overhang, or where the land rises up a bit like a small hill and juts out over the river slightly.

The werewolves can spawn on top of the overhang.

My PC\NA main, PC\EU main and alt all got their bites in Bangkorai in the same area.
If you follow a line from the Viridian Woods wayshrine Northwest to the road, ALL three times I have gotten my scratches there.
          - Always at night under a full Moon.
          - I have not been able to confirm this but read it online: werewolves OR vampires may spawn in the same areas. So if you get vamps you will not see werewolves that night.
          - They will hang around for awhile or until killed, not sure of exact time frame. But on PC\EU I was actually on my alt when I found werewolves but wanted my main to contract the howls. I was able to switch to my main, FT there and the werewolves were still hanging out. Got it for both my EU characters that night :D

Vampires spawn at the spawn locations in Reaper's March, The Rift, and Bangkorai when it is a new moon. Werewolves spawn in the same place when there is a full moon.

This may have been true years ago but no longer.

I tracked spawns in the rift for about a year. I know of 20 spawn locations (there are probably more). The only thing for certain is that they always spawn at night; either werewolves will spawn or bloodfiends or neither; phase of the moon is irrelevant. there will be 2(?) groups of spawns at the same time. it seems that if a group is killed, they will respawn again elswhere, similar to harvest nodes.

in game days are a bit less than 6 hours so that game daytime won't always occur at the same time each real day. so 4 game days and hence 4 game nights occur each real-world day.

the random pattern is something like: werewolves spawn, then nothing the next 1-3 game nights, then bloodfiends, then nothing the next 1-3 game nights, repeat

All of my characters have all been bitten by NPCs instead of players. It just seems more immersive to me that way. You have quite a few chances per week to get bit by something, it just takes patience and sometimes an alarm clock
