Leveling alts...

Hey all,

Maybe someone else has this issue... Is it hard for anyone else to level and stay on a different character? My main is my templar, love it and whatnot. But I want to gear up and play a arcanist or even a NB. But, I just sit back and think of all the work I did on my templar... I've done damn close to every quest in the game, pvp rank... etc etc And just thinking id have to go through and do it all over again(I know I don't really, but my head is like that, that completionist/OCD in me)and it just becomes so daunting and I end up not playing it and staying on my templar.

Does anyone else struggle with this? I need help to get me out of this box, anyone have any opinions? Any are appreciated.

I'm unsure if you mean leveling, as in get to CP points, or a general sense of progression.

For leveling to 50, I make sure I'm twinked with 2 full 5 pieces (5 pieces of A and B sets alternating at level 4, 10, 16, 24, 32 and 40), level to 10 via prophet quests and general wayshrine/skyshard explo, then just do a daily dungeon from 10 to 50. Make sure to feed your horse, stuff things in research queues or decon, and collect the transmutes! Grab stuff like the nag-nitrous passive asap too, of course. Should be nicely baked after about a month, with a crispy top and moist inside.

After that, you're on your own as regards sense of completion. Do what was most fun the first time round?

18 max level characters, 3 of every class; hybrid, stamina, and magicka builds; all gear golded out. Leveling 2 arcanists (22 and 16) in between leveling Azandar (18) and Sharp-as-Night (8). Altoholicism is a horrible addiction, I have it worse on World of Warcraft with 58 characters, 36 alliance and 22 horde.

You don’t have to do a lot of the same story quests you did on your main toon, you can grab skshards and find a more efficient way to get skill points to level up a new toon.

Don’t let that dissuade you from trying out a new class. It’s fun to have different builds.

When it comes to alts and leveling I really just focus on doing delves, public dungeon and grabbing overland skyshards. And at least a few of the main quest for the easy skill points.

I usually don’t go all out on alts, unless they are one of my mains. I have a main, primary healer and primary tank. I also have my original/first character and my crafter. So they will all have mages, fg, undaunted and psijic leveled. My others? Only what is needed. My Arcanist is going to become my PvPer after my Magcro finally hits AR 50.

I used to go all out on all but as the game grew bigger I found myself getting burned out real fast so now I only go all out on a few and the rest are just fun. Even the builds on my others are just really fun builds, stuff not even close to meta. Even when my main, the Magcro, is retired from PvP they will always be the first to do new content and achievements… they are my main after all… I just can’t stand necro in PvP anymore lol.

I suggest doing that, only go all out on maybe one or two… the rest? Meh. Do what you want with those. Don’t feel obligated to do it all again and again for all characters, that’s what a main is for. Have fun on the rest.

Same as you OP, when i loging alt, i remember 8 years old story. So i return on my main, do endeavor ,logout and play other game.

When I want to try a new class, I just create it and start playing it for literally an hour a day: going through the daily dungeon, collecting shards, collecting guild mage books, making a pledge, doing dungeon quests, doing group events in public dungeons. Not all at once, of course, only what is in the mood today. And in this mode, after one or two weeks, I get a completely ready character for any content.
I was also afraid to create the first alt. And then I just created it, I was in no hurry, everything turned out by itself.

Not sure what the issues are but today, if you have one character who has all quest you got the archivement so you dont need to do them again, Just follow story quest for skillpoints. I use gear i find on the way up untill i reach lvl 16, then i craft full training gear in purple and use it up to lvl 50. When done i put the gear in the bank and use it again next time i lvl up a new build. But i like to do quest so i do them all anyways also and have done it so many times since release, deleted builds and made new over and over. Today i have 3 alts im doing quest on again after 3 years break. when done i start on 3 new alts just to catch up I dont need but i want.

If just getting to 50 is the issue, just do what you enjoy. You can lvl to 50 doing random dungeons, BG's, Cyro, solo/group arenas. For skill points, going to all the public dungeons for the group boss and skyshard will get you alot. One run of each group dungeon gets a skillpoint. Each alliance rank, also.

As above, I'd create the alt now and start getting in the habit of mount training, and crafting trait training, so when or if you do decide to pick them up, you'll not feel any conventional loss of ability.

Only the excitement / dread of collecting all those sky shards again.

Don't be silly about getting PVP rank on your alts unless you are serious about them, and love them.

The most non-committal way I found to levelling alts, was to do the daily random dungeon as a healer on said character, 10 mins' game play and you'll have a couple levels. Park it, and then follow up the next day.

Once at 50, you'll be able to gear them easily in purples, and then gauge whether you like them enough or not.

At the end of the day, you'll be working towards having max level crafting alts incidentally which will generate materials to either sell or use.

Deliberation is what's stopping progress.

Focus on doing getting skill points, unlocking skills and skill lines and do quests that unlock areas such as coldharbour. You would also want to skill up crafting if you like gold.

There's no point trying to do everything with an alt, especially now that the achievements are account wide. I mainly use alts as storage and for daily crafting. Also I have one that is specialist to speed and gathering survey reports.

On the weekend, after over 3 years of playing ESO on only 1 character, I finally decided to create some alts, 7 of them. But these are all for crafting. I did, however, leave my options option for them doing non-crafting activities, and made them as diverse as possible: they're 7 different races and are of 4 different classes. I put a lot of effort into the character creation, and after getting 4 of them ready for daily writs, I'm quite happy with the results.

So right now, I don't have any decision paralysis about what to do with the alts, because their main purpose for quite a while will just be crafting, so I can build up the crafting materials a lot faster than I could on only 1 character.

I was like that but at some point decided to roll alts. I have put them into excessive grind period as all of my alts has around four hundred skills points. I even went through with one of my alt through all main quests but that consumed a lot of time.

I want all my alts be able to do all roles, all crafting and all research along with antiquity digging. This takes almost a hundred hours of pure grinding per character. It is also expensive for me because having them ten Outfit slots and ten Armory slots is a must for me.

This is just me though. Most people around me just creates a character and grinds a few hundred skill points and do grind enough skill levels to do one role properly and be done with it.

Only bright side is that you do not need to grind every gear every time for your alts because you can share gear at least.

Khajiit apparently has a different perspective than what is common. This one now has 20 full cp, fully leveled (skills, weapons, 7 prof master craft, etc) characters, 19 khajiit and 1 argonian (with fluffy delusions) and they each get treated as 'mains' of a sort. 3 of each class - stam dps, mag dps and tank, (except of course arcanist, only 2 dps but still fully leveled).

This one has a definite main, who is 9 trait and knows all but 3 or 4 of the current motifs, who has finished the most content and who nearly always gets first bit of new content, but all of this one's various personalities end up adventuring fairly often and equally, play-time-wise, give or take. Perhaps it helps that 18/19 of this one's alts are white tiger khajiit like main (although all are unique in story and look and such).

Perhaps just get in the moment - try something very different with new character, a role you are very unfamiliar with, or content you haven't done in a long time or very much enjoy. For khajiit it is Thieves' guild quests - TG is first non-crafting skill line khajiit gets to max on new character, which helps this one to develop each character's unique approach to the important thngs in their life.

Antiquities are one of those skill lines I just do on my main, like crafting, But the horse training needs to be done on all alts so it's annoying.

I like running dungeons solo and I very much want glowing chests for that.

Must = main game quest (Prophet), overland skyshards, public dungeon group event bosses and their skyshards, horse training and level 3 alliance war skill lines for continuous attack.
Eventually, depending of what you want to do with your alt = skill points from dungeon quests, guilds (undaunted, fighters, mages and psijic), crafting (just 1st perk and hirelings, for gold generated and alchemy/provisioning combat passives), rest of alliance war skill lines.
Rest is not worth your time at all on alts. ☺️

Levelling is the easy part, it's all the skill lines, morphs, skill points and other stuff that just makes committing to more than one character incredibly difficult. Even my Templar off-main that has progress done for everything but Necrom is missing dozens upon dozens of motifs that make favouring her over my DK completely unreasonable.

Skill lines being made BoA is pretty much never gonna happen. Would be nice if Antiquties was though, I don't think you can buy that so they wouldn't lose anything and it's bring it to parity with Tales of Tribute and Companions.

I've leveled 8 alts over the years and getting your alt to level 50 isn't the bad part; for me the worst part is leveling your mount. I really wish mount upgrades were account wide as everything else is doable IMO. Before anyone objects saying that account mount upgrades are bad I remember when we leveled each mount you owned separately by feeding it apples/barley/oats and combining all mount training for a character was a major QOL upgrade for players and for ZoS as it encouraged Crown Store mounts to be purchased.

As long as you have one character at CP160 or better...

All you have to do is get an Alt to L50, then it has all the CP and Gear choices your CP160 plus main has.

There are many ways to get that leveling done, some fast, some fun, some more grindy than others. Just make sure you have one of each 3 class skill on your bar, one weapon skill and one flex skill like a resto staff or guild skill so you get those leveled to at least morph stage and get those skill lines leveled to unlock all the skills.

Play with the skills of the class as you go, but dont fret builds. You get to respec everything once your at L50. So, you can level your tank or healer as DPS if you need to, then spec them into the role.

i actually think i had you a bit beat there, i had almost 70 characters in city of heroes lol

i only have 10 right now in eso, because of all the work in getting a new character up to speed here has kind of put me off making a lot

i wish this game had a way to save your UI and keybind setup to make that part less of a hassle
