It scales, but it shouldnt scale so much that you can be lvl one and be fine without trying.

I did it from lvl 1, no cp allocated, using only stuff I found on the way. Was challenging at points, but satisfying. Its totally doable, any easier and I would have once again fallen asleep and not done the content, just like the previous expansions.

Well then it's no wonder that you find overland content so easy... because even on my CP1800 Magplar, I still had some difficulty in a couple of boss fights, even with a companion, but again it would have been easier if the NPC skill prompts had showed up regularly, as when they did it sucked any difficulty out of the encounter. Had I not had a companion the boss fights would have been even more difficult, so I cannot imagine what a new player would encounter during this story quest.

That was the problem though, not the actual difficulty. The prompts need to be clearer, and the aoes you stand in for the synergies bigger.

The tutorial is still part of the game. And that I did at lvl 1, got out at lvl 3, and only used things i picked up along the way. Was very fun, was the first time I had fun on a dlc since Elsweyr.

This is the thing, though. I see no AOEs. And even when the voice prompt comes on, there's no X on screen to hit, or nowhere obvious to stand. And the most ridiculous thing is, in the immediate lead up to that boss fight, you are trained to stand within a protective area from one of the guys who comes along on the quest... but when you get to that boss fight, he nicks off, so everything you've just been trained for, mechanics wise, doesn't happen anyway. It's quite stupid design from that standpoint.

Either way, I used pets and Ember and simply ran in circles, and only rarely attacked. Which is obviously not a good method for a new toon. Which means this is kind of broken.

Yes, this is how I did it. In fact, I think that this is the only way that you can do it, at least is was for my nightblade. I died the first time, trying to melee her with my stronger in your face attacks, but got wrecked by the adds. Basically had to just strafe with my bow and switch on and off to cut down the adds with Ember sort of helping on the sides with her range attacks until she died too and I was all alone. Eventually was able to weave in and out and find the circle to use the npc assist to take her down. It was certainly more difficult than expected, but I got it on my second attempt.

Is there a hard boss in the new chapter? Maybe I should buy it then. This game is way too easy IMO

There are harder bosses all throughout the chapter. Most of the delve bosses and story quest bosses are still a cakewalk, and I'm not an elite player by any means, just an average on with an average build that does decent enough to get me through stuff. But, the Public Dungeon bosses are definitely more difficult, especially the ones in the Gorne dungeon, but I was able to solo all of them except for one which is one of those big snake vampire things with a couple of adds, very tough. The other PD was easier though, and I'm not sure as to why the discrepancy in that.

I'm hearing that the new WBs are for sure much tougher, but I haven't really done any yet, and the things that you have to kill for the daily "world event/group dungeon" fiasco are for sure ridiculously hard.

And, then there's this one, where it's manageable if you can get the mechanics to work properly, but still harder than most previous end bosses have been.

I don't know... I ran into this particular fight yesterday evening and was getting one-shotted almost as soon as it started. On a level 50 Altmer spellcaster with around 730 or so CP.

I totally get that some people love a challenge. But I am a regular Skyrim addict and am used to running around with a dozen followers. I don't play ESO that often, usually when a new chapter shows up. So I am by no means remotely good at this game even though I've been around since the closed beta in 2013. For me the story and the exploring is more important than the challenge.

So I wonder if there is some way to reconcile the wishes of those that love a challenge with those of us that want to explore and have a (relatively) easy time. I know some have suggested a veteran overland setting - that seems like a good compromise.

    Just my two cents.

Like I said in the post above yours, I eventually returned to it at L25 and - with a companion - got through it.

It was part healing the companion and keeping him up, although he eventually went down. And then a lot of dodging and moving in general, and paying very close attention to the mechanics, and I daresay, a little bit of luck as well.

I completely agree with you, it's not an 'easy' fight by any means. The worst part about it is, if you give up for the day, you need to fight through the whole level again, just to get to it. So not only are you demoralised by potentially losing the boss fight over and over, but if you take multiple days to do it, you're doing that same boring level over and over and over as well.

    It's certainly not enjoyable.

So you want to finish the main quest of the Expansion and be the Hero of Necrom with a level 18 character...

You easily can? I did so with my Arcanist as I leveled one in Necrom. While the fight might not be brain dead easy, it‘s absolutely doable with trash gear and a low level character, without Champion points allocated and without a companion.

All you gotta do is move out of AoE and listen to the NPC to use their skill. I find it a bit ridiculous that people complain about difficulty in this fight when there‘s none. It‘s solely about being aware of what‘s going on and reacting to it - that’s not difficult.

I think this is really funny, not gonna lie.

I mean, I ended this boss fight while minimizing the game during the fight because I work on an unofficial translation, and I was doing the translation simultaneously while fighting the boss...

It amuses me a bit because my character was like... lvl.16/17, and his gear wasn't great

I miss the old times when overland & questing were challenging, you needed to gear up, use buffs, call friends to beat some fights, that is what MMORPG is about. Nowadays we got tons of heals in low levels and companions, can't make this any easier

Knowing how to use your keyboard or controller has nothing to do with flexing. And more than that is not needed to do any (!) kind of normal content (especially quests) in ESO.

And I‘ve read the thread and I’ve seen several people complain about the fight in general and not just a bug. Sorry that this game doesn’t play itself for you and you just wait, watch and earn. A little bit of self-action is still mandatory.

I think the difficulty here is that I'm getting one-shotted, which means that I cannot recover from a single error. I'm playing a MagSorc with relatively few points allocated to Health and nearly everything to Magicka which does make me a bit of a glass cannon. I have mostly Necropotence armor at gold level.

I've heard elsewhere that the MagSorc class has been nerfed to the point of uselessness and I'm guessing that all the cool kids are using something other than Necropotence these days.

I'm starting to get up there in age too. Which probably doesn't help.

this isnt a new complaint, i know people who complained about this when summerset and clockwork city were released where they were straight up stuck on one of the near-end-of-story quest bosses

edit: also want to mention that back in 2014 molag bal at the end of the main story was originally considered a major challenge too lol

Ha ha do you remember Dosha in the second Fighter's Guild mission was totally OP for a new player back in 2014? Same with Balorth in the EP Stonefalls questline. 2014 the overland content was HARD! I have done both recently with new toons (but with proper gear sets and 1,000 CP) and they are trivial.

I think that is a problem for quite a few people (myself included). Since the last patch Meln and Skruut (and who knows what else) seem to have lost their voice. So there is no audio cues for "Use my ghost sight". So while I am looking around for a small greenish glowing circle to stand in, in a greenish tinged world, I get nailed by a laser that kills me in 3.2 seconds.

So there you are, blazing through Necrom with a new character... and you get towards the end of the main questline... maybe you're Level 18 or so... and you've solo'd everything.

You're then confronted with a boss fight that I think would need at least several tooled up, max level characters.

How does this make ANY sense? Where is the fun in this?

The design of the thing is so bad that even if you decide to respawn at a waypoint to get away, it places you within range of
    Vaermina
and you just get hit again and again.

Honestly, what sadist came up with this? It's cruelled what was a fun little adventure thus far.

Ok after 4 tries I went and crafted my Lvl 28 Arcanist a set of Julianos and Magnus gift gear (5 set with Juli incl staff, 4 set of Magnus), purpled with Divines and Inc Magika enchants, weapons with Fire enchants. Pulled out my max level, blue gear Bastian as a tank. I was running around with just training traits on everything....made that fight near impossible.

    Spanked Vermina pretty easily.

    Key is:

    1) stay out of stupid. Run around when she casts the translucent beam shooting clones until you can use Meln's Ghost sight. Then keep out of stupid while beating on her more.
    2) Interrupt her clones as much as you can
    3) LOOK up at vermina when requested to use black book

Still tough considering Meln has not voice....but just have to stay out of beams until you can see the ghost sight.

I took another crack at [boss] last night. Had a companion with me this time and various buffs to health, magicka and stamina. I laid waste to everything in the Mythos including the other boss.

But [boss] is still kicking my butt, after no less than 20 attempts.

There's simply too many lasers. I can expend my effort avoiding the lasers or I can try to pummel [boss] and the adds. But not both. I'm simply too old and decrepit to have the necessary dexterity. Best I could do was to get [boss] down to around 35% before succumbing to the second round of adds.

    This sucks royally.

Well, my level 20 arcanist enlisted help from a guild mate for this one. I never saw a single synergy prompt and since there is no sound for either of the two NPCs that are supposed to help, I can't even say if they gave the prompt verbally that they were going to offer help.

Thanks to my friend I managed to progress the quest but that was way more difficult than I thought it should be, which is why I ended up here to try to find out what I was missing - apparently the synergy prompts.

Even the black book one was weird. That I finally got by standing in a very specific place on the steps but it was not appearing anywhere else.

Oh and we also managed to fall through the floor when we arrived through the final portal and had to die from environmental damage and resurrect on the platform to even start the fight.

All in all, I am thinking it is a teensy bit bugged.
