Dark Heart of Skyrim - Starting Despot of Markath

Hi All,

I'm a new player and have been playing through the Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline in its chronological order. I've completed the Harrowstorm, Greymoor and Stonethorn sections.

I am trying to start the Markath section of Dark Heart of Skyrim which starts with the quest "Despot of Markath", it says this quest is began with Verandis Ravenwatch, so I tried to enter Ravenwatch castle which I'd previously accessed in the Stonethorn Chapter, I wasn't able to enter via the door, with the open option being greyed out. I decided to do the local quest "Shornhelm Divided" of the guard knocking on the door thinking this would open it. I completed the quest and can now access Ravenwatch but Verandis is now offering me another quest "Dream-walk into darkness", when will he offer me the Despot of Markath quest? I thought they were separate questlines? It's frustrating having built so much momentum on the previous chapters of Dark Heart of Skyrim to be thrown into adventuring in a region and storyline I'm not interested in.

How can I begin the quest Despot of Markath ASAP?

IIRC, you cannot start that quest "in game" by hunting down Verandis and talking with him (but I might be wrong about that).

Instead, you need to open up your Collections (U), select Stories, and accept the quest there. Then you'll be directed to where you can find Verandis and speak with him.

You need to speak to Verandis in the Reach, not in Rivenspire. He's by practically every wayshrine, including the default you have in the zone. He's hard to miss because he's having a conversation with one of the Ard's guards on loop.
