I just got this achievement when I looted a green quality fish (Inkfish) off of a Lurker I just killed...which seemed odd but maybe all fish are on their loot table? (or this is a bug?)
Strangely enough I also got the achievement, despite not ever having fished in the zone, after killing a Lurker near the water. I'm guessing someone else that was fishing pulled that creature from the depths but didn't kill it.

I cannot answer your question but I for one will gladly eat that food if that means I can pull out more fish/stuff in a shorter time. Fishing gets really boring after a few hours....And the more hits I have the higher the chance to get a gold recipe as a side reward.
Unfortunately, that will hinder, not help your chances to get furnishing plans. Anything that increases your chance of getting rare fish (Pickled Fish Bowl, Sharp's passive, Anger's Instincts CP passive, fishing in a group, etc.) means you will pull more green and blue vendor only fish instead of the folios, satchels, bottles, or Perfect Roe fish.

I don't know if this is true or not. I just started fishing this month and Necrom was the first zone I completed all the fishing types. I have been after the Pulled from the Depths for a few days now (fishing ten nodes a day) and using the Artaeum fish food and angler’s instincts buff I have gotten two yellow patterns and three purple patterns within three days. I was happy to see the yellow patterns sell for 100k each and the purple around 50k! Seem to be pulling at least four or five of the things that contain them every day with ten nodes. Might just be luck however.
On a side note after 4 days of fishing ten nodes a day no lurker yet sigh.
Question however, what does everyone mean by greens and blues? Green and blue fish? Is there an achievement for those or something?

there is a angler achievement for every zone for catching 12 "rare" fish, which are the green and blue trophy fish
usually those are divided out into different water types (unless the zone is missing 1-3 of the types of water)
