Hello, I have been playing ESO since the game has come out with no issues, but this morning I started getting the error listed below. I play daily and have had no issues, but today it started in Spindleclutch that it popped up several times. So I restarted my computer and played for about 20 minutes and then got it again while playing in overland content, not for sure what it might be as all my drivers are up to date.

fatal error: dxgi_error_device_removedfatal error: dxgi_error_device_removed

Nothing has changed on my system since 5/24/2023 when my Nvida driver was updated. I am running windows 11.

Thank you
Phil Bowman

Seems like an issue with your graphics card/driver.

For starters try reverting to the latest stable driver you used (probably the one the latest update).
Never get between a cat and it's candy!
    ---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Imagine my surprise when I was searching for this EXACT same error this morning and found this thread in the search hits...

Just happened this morning, first time ever, with any game or PC.
A bit of initial research suggests GPU, that was until I found this thread and another ESO player with the same error.
I've been in IT too long to believe in coincidence anymore.

I've more testing to do yet later but wanted to add my voice here now in case this is becoming a trending issue.

If\when I learn more about it later I will update this post. It seems like GPU (plz NO) or drivers but since the Necrom update my game client as been fairly craptastic as far as stability and performance.

EDIT: For me I was just sitting by Drel the mount trainer outside Vivec City. I was not in Spindleclutch.

    For ref:
    Operating System: Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045)
System Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
    System Model: GE66 Raider 11UH
    Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11980HK @ 2.60GHz (16 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Chip type: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU
    Display Memory: 32425 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 16191 MB
    Shared Memory: 16234 MB
    Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)

    Follow ups:
    I was running Geforce 535.98 drivers (05/30/23)
Noticed they have a hotfix to 536.23 just released (06/14/23), I don't see anything in those notes that point to this issue directly, going to update them and test more later.
There is mention of flickering when using multiple displays with g-sync enabled, no mention of the error we reported here tho.
I do use an external LCD but haven't noticed flickering. Still going to try the hotfix, it's Windows so who knows lol.

After installing the hotfix drivers mentioned above I have not had an reoccurring issues (yet.)

Hopefully it stays this way :)

I would like to add myself to the list of seeing this.

I've got a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and am running Windows 10.
    Driver version 536.23

I just noticed it doing this today, but I haven't been playing a whole lot until the last few days. I updated both the OS and the driver recently, and should be on the latest updates of everything.

I only have two other things to add, that I'm not sure are related. I've noticed that my screen has been going black when switching into full screen, which it has never done before. Also, I tried playing Dragon Age Origins earlier, and the screen was freezing a lot and crashing. No error message that I could see though. I've played it before without issue.

    Hello,

I am very surprised to see you guys having this error because your computer configurations seem very good.

I currently have the same issue, but i assumed it was because of my gpu card as it is a very old one (Intel HD Graphics 520), with only 128 vram. So I assumed it was coming from the lack of dedicated memory (even if i can make run this game at 40 FPS on low settings), as the minimum requested is 1Go vram.

Well I have tried every solution found on the net, and I assume it is also the same for you.

I can only guess it may come from TESO , because I don't even have this error on other games.

EDIT : I just remembered something that I have done in the past, I added the TdrDelay DWORD value (with a 10 value decimal) in the registry editor \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers , so instead of crashing directly , my computer should freeze a little.

    I will try that ASAP.

    Hello,

EDIT : Ok update, I had the same error, but after 5h of play, and then i am getting the same amount of error than before every 10 mn

So just to update, the last solution cleared a part of my problem over the render crash (fatal error: dxgi_error_device_removed )

    The solution :

Create a 32 bit DWORD value named TdrDelay , with a 10 value decimal in the registry editor.
Directory in the registry editor : \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers

You may want to try this @elinien @rolynnthundar @Tenthirty2

it may not have resolved my issue but I hope this will resolve it for you.

    Have a good game !

I'm also getting the same error with an nVidia RTX 3060.

It's also crashing when running Unity, with a DX12 device reconnected error.

    Sure do: ok12ptshfmon.jpg

I have spoken to Nvidia tech support who got me to use their app to fully remove the video drivers & do a full reinstall. So far, so good.

I have now also run into this issue and removing drivers using DDU und safe mode and reinstalling has not resolved my issue, but its still an issue not specific to ESO (ESO and RE4, but nothing else).

Yes, It startet happening at a similar time as other posters experienced this problem.

    OS: Windows 11 Home
    CPU: AMD 7950X
    GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080
    Motherboard: ASUS Prime X670E-Pro Wifi

I can reproduce the issue easiest with ESO after around ~30 minutes, but also with Resident Evil 4.
    No other game though.

I also tried downgrading my driver to a march version, which was unsuccessful in solving the issue.
    Very mysterious.
Googling these kind of issues is very pointless unfortunately.

This also sounds exactly like my issue:

unfortunately 4 month old without any helpful reply

I downgraded to the driver that is reported here as newest-failing -.-

    One final update:
I downgraded now to 528.49 as per the thread I linked and my problems went away.
I will either bother nvidia about it again, and/or wait for some time until I upgrade to newest again, hoping that the issue will be fixed at some point.

I had the same error just a few minutes ago, too. Struck me as odd because I know my brother had the same problem last night on his laptop. I will try the driver updates and so on but seems like there could be other issues at play.

yeah this is still a problem. Randomly started getting this error today. Just doing the normal stuff I do every day... and have been for years. I have an older card (Nvidia GTX 1070), so updating drivers isn't even an option. Nvidia stopped putting out new drivers a couple years ago for this card. I can try the registry edit, but I'm not sure having my computer lock up for a short time is much better. Clearly, something you guys did in recent code has not been playing nicely with old or new graphics cards.

Edit.... it appears I can have ESO running OR I can log out of ESO and start up Minion, but if i try to start up minion with ESO running, it'll give me the error and crash

I started getting this error as well today, mainly when in the Crown store. I have never seen it before, and the problem for me is only tied to ESO as I have not been able to reproduce the error in other games. I have the latest stable driver, and judging by the increased number of reported problems with this I think the problem is on your end ZOS.

I had this error a few years ago when running Nvidia 1080 Ti's in SLI (SLI was not the issue).

After a lot of pain and manual troubleshooting it turned out to be one of the several 8 pin power cables to one of the 1080 Ti's.

It wasn't easy to find but it was a high resistance connection on one of the pins that built up over years. Replaced that power cable and no more problems.

It drove me nuts for the longest time and this issue only popped up in two games: ESO and Generation Zero.
