Question about how conflicts appear on the PvP maps

With multiple Mayhems coming up, I figured now would be a great time to ask a few questions I have about the icon for conflicts on the pvp maps (the colored swords crossed icon). Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I mostly PvE or do BGs, and I wasn't able to find any satisfactory answers online.
  1. What determines when a conflict appears on the map? Is it something like the number of deaths in a specific area, or is it something else?
  2. When does a conflict get promoted from a small one to a medium one, then finally to a large?
  3. How long do the icons last on the map once a battle starts?
  4. For a more subjective question, do you try go towards conflicts when you see them, or do you stay focused on getting keeps/resources/districts/whatever?
  5. Finally, if we don't know any specifics about how this mechanic works, would it be frowned upon or against TOS to do studying and experimenting to see how they work?

Thanks in advance!
Still waiting for answers about class set aura behavior, and also hoping that one day hair dyeing will be an option. We know it's canon thanks to a book in the Manor of Masques! (House of Reveries: The Troupe)

I will try to reply to the best of my knowledge

    1. A conflict(im assuming you mean the swords crossing symbol) appears whenever anyone in a fight around 5ish players occurs, and it'll register as a small fight, medium fight, or large fight depending on how many are involved. Even if it's an unbalanced fight(10v1) it can be marked as Large.
    2. I'm not sure what the metric exactly is, but I believe around 10 players is medium and maybe in 20s range of any players, it becomes large. Just taking a guess based on my own experience in pvp. When I solo i typically never get a conflict symbol if it's a 1v3 to a 1v5, but the moment there's around 7 there usually is. I assume around 6 players is when it marks as conflict
    3. It depends on what you're trying to do I would say, i typically don't go for the conflict symbols(swords crossed) but rather towards flagged keeps (they have the yellow flash around them). Typically regular open field conflicts will be over quite fast unless it's like a Ball group farming players. I will usually focus on keeps or districts that are flagged.

    4. Definitely not, but know there are people who always watching map at any time so I imagine you would draw some attention

i will also add that the conflict sites are sometimes a bit delayed, they sometimes dont even appear until a fight is almost resolved at times, if it was a very quick fight

for your number 4, i usually use them as an estimate to get dticks

if there is fighting outside of a keep and its not yet lit, you can port there to join in to get the tick, or help defend if it turns into a larger fight

for 5 i dont think theres any harm in doing experiments like getting a bunch of people together (and just to make a joke of it everyone strips down and just punches each other, classic bar room brawl style, would make for a good video clip too lol)

usually the fights the game considers small, are the ones that tend to end faster so the swords are a bit delayed, theres been many a times where ive gone to where the swords are but theres no fighting because its already moved to another location

if you say see fighting at the gate between nik and ash, usually it means theres a force heading to the keep, or to the outpost and this is where keeping an eye on chat is good cause someone might announce something like "nik about to be ua large group coming from the gate" which gives time for reinforcements to arrive to defend the keep

Thanks for the response overall! I might double check with support if I can, then I might try toying around with the mechanic to see how it works
