Unresolved mouse drifting win 8.1

secrettsquirrel
Using Win 8.1 x64 and, in both windowed mode and full screen mode, the view spins/drifts if the mouse isn't centered. Whenever I move the mouse to rotate the view, the camera starts spinning in that direction and I have to counter the movement to slow it down. I was able to make it "manageable" by turning down the DPI resolution of my mouse (Razer Naga 2014) and bringing the camera rotation speed way down, but I wouldn't call it playable.

I did see the thread here but it didn't help: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4492/kw/camera spinning

Update KB2903939 was already installed, and I also set the DPI compatibility settings of both the launcher exe and eso.exe, but am still having the issue.

I haven't tried this because I don't have your issue...

But I have noticed in the UserSettings.txt file there is a line:
    SET MouseRawInput "1"

Try changing that to 0, saving, and relaunching?

Thanks- just tried that but no change.

Do you have a different mouse you can try to narrow down whether its the mouse driver or not?

I also tried a basic Microsoft optical mouse (not sure what model) and had the same problem so pretty sure it's a Win 8 thing.

When I start the game in windowed mode, I don't have the problem UNTIL I move my character.

I FOUND THE ISSUE! Control Panel>Hardware&Sound>Mouse>Pointer Options then DESELECT the box labeled "Enhance Pointer Precision"

I feel so accomplished! Damn, that drifting was annoying.
  • secrettsquirrel
That option was already disabled on my PC.

Oh, well sorry. It fixed my drifting and another guys.

    Fixed.

Not sure why it wasn't working, but I did the following (it seemed easiest):
    • Re-installed Win 8
    • Installed updates & Nvidia driver
    • Update to 8.1
    • Re-DL & re-installed TESO - works fine
    • Reconnect HDMI (for A/V sound receiver) and other monitor - works fine
    • Install drivers & Synapse 2.0 for Naga mouse - still works fine
At this point I'm just going to enjoy playing for a bit. If I run into the problem again after reconfiguring the rest of my PC I'll post back.

Oh god, I hate that option. It is the bane of my existence on every computer I have to use, I have to fumble around until I can turn it off. (I use different computers at work, this isn't an issue on my home computer). Mouse acceleration is evil, I don't understand why anyone would ever want to use it.

I'm running Win 8.1 and don't have this drifting mouse problem. Which mouse driver did your mouse install load?

Interestingly I had this problem with 8.x in World of Warcraft last year. Microsoft followed up with a FixIt patch. It worked for me but didn't work for 100% of gamers with the same issue.

Edit: I see that you fixed the problem
